I’d given myself away.

Although Henry turning up at Chrysalis yesterday had made it easy for everyone to guess our secret.

Last night had been too much and yet not enough. That man made me tremble in all the right ways.

As Shay drove off, I took advantage of the gate being open and navigated up Henry’s driveway.

He had invited me back.

Hopefully, seeing me would make his day better. I could sit on his terrace and play with Dex if Henry had work to do—sad luck on a weekend, but these business tycoons rarely rested.

My body responded as though he was already in my sights.

Last night we’d made love in this house until the wee hours. I’d only left because I needed to shower and change clothes.

Last night.I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect evening at Chrysalis that tumbled naturally into an all-nighter.

After our untamed sex was over and I lay on his chest drifting to sleep, I’d realized I hadn’t felt this safe in a man’s arms for years.

Going anywhere with Henry felt like an adventure. We could be in the middle of nowhere and sleeping in a tent—just being in his presence made me blissfully happy.

Racking my brain, I couldn’t recall the last time I’d felt this high from life.

I gently knocked on the front door.

The last time I’d used the doorbell, literally every single staff member had appeared out of nowhere. They had enough to do without having to fuss around me.

I decided to walk around the side of the house, heading toward the noise of laughter and splashing water.

What I saw next caused me to freeze in my tracks.

Reese was swimming in the pool with a young woman who I guessed was her daughter.

Reese noticed me, and I saw the joy fade from her expression. She waded to the shallow end and climbed the steps, walking over to a lounger where she grabbed a towel, wrapping it around her tall, lithe body.

Of course, after seeing them at lunch together at Truffles this shouldn’t come as a surprise.

I met her halfway. “Having fun?”

She appeared just as disappointed to see me.

“Lilly needed this.” She glanced back at her daughter. “It’s been a whirlwind trip.”

“Henry told me she wants to study at UCLA,” I said, my tone friendly.

“She’s applied,” she said. “We’re waiting to hear if she got in.”

“It’s a great place.”

Reese would want the best for Lilly. UCLA was also undoubtedly one of the most expensive colleges. It made me wonder how she could afford it.

“I’m here to see Henry,” I stated the obvious.

“He’s inside,” she said.

It was a challenge keeping my expression serene.

She wouldn’t realize that I knew she’d hidden our boat at the preserve, blocking our exit. Maybe I was over dramatizing the incident, but Henry being around her made the hairs on my nape prickle.
