We walked into the ballroom and soon found our table.
Cameron sat next to me. “Just heard what happened.”
“I’m fine.”
“You should have reminded him the dandelion root makes you pee.”
I chuckled at that. “He’s going to be presented with a subpoena. His business will be deconstructed.”
Reese and Lilly appeared speechless as they listened in.
“No more discussing business,” said Reese.
I ignored that and turned to Cameron. “We have a wake to attend.”
Cameron smirked. “Let me guess, Dandelion Diva’s?”
Shay approached our table. “Griffin just texted they are close.”
Lotte had just missed the drama. “Have her enter through the back entrance, in case Jasper is still out there.”
“I can do that,” said Shay, texting Griffin.
“Join us for drinks until she gets here,” said Cameron, pulling a chair out for him.
Shay sat next to Cameron and accepted a glass of bourbon.
“Watch over her tonight,” I said.
“Lotte?” said Reese. “That girl can take care of herself.”
“I want her to have a wonderful time,” I said. “Even if I’m not with her.”
I took a sip of Macallan to wet my throat and take the edge off having to be in the same room as Charlotte without being able to touch her.
“Are you ready?” asked Cameron. “Could be fallout.”
We both knew he was referring to my speech.
It would crush one woman and lift the other up to where she belonged—as my girlfriend.

While training underwater, I’d followed that faint glint of light to the target until there was none. At the darkest moment of reaching my objective, I’d remained composed.

Henry sent a car to drive me to the gala.
The journey in his luxury limo to Hotel Casa Del Mar was quite pleasant. Chatting with his driver Griffin on the way here had been lovely.
I didn’t text Henry. I knew he’d be too busy taking interviews on the red carpet and greeting guests.
