“He’s great,” said Henry. “I took him for a run earlier. He’s asleep back at the hotel.”

Just the thought of Henry sprinting around a park made me shiver in anticipation, as though I might get to observe that sight one day.

Ridiculous.

We were destined to never spend another second alone together.

As though sensing I was ogling him, Henry gave me a heart-stopping grin. Maybe he was recalling his time at Chrysalis.

“When are you gonna buy a house?” asked Richard. “Give Dex a big yard?”

Henry glanced over at me. “Trying to find the right location. Anywhere but Encino.”

“I live in Encino,” I said, annoyed.

After an awkward silence, Cameron said to me, “That dress is beautiful.”

I’d been staring at his brother. But in my defense, he’d been staring at me.

Maybe Cameron had picked up on how uncomfortable I felt.

“You all look divine,” I said, making eye contact with everyone—excepthim.

Henry acted like the ultimate snob. That encounter with him in the dungeon had been enough to last a lifetime.

His intensity was unnerving.

Cameron piped up, “Let’s address the elephant in the room.”

Henry bristled. “You better not be talking about me.”

“Yes, Henry,” said Cameron. “I am.”

Henry gave me a reproachful look, as though he blamed me for the awkwardness. “I apologize for turning up at your den of iniquity.”

“You mean Chrysalis?” Richard seemed offended. “What did you do with my Venetian masquerade mask?”

Cameron glared at Henry. I wondered if they’d talked about him visiting our private sanctum.

Mia punched Henry’s arm playfully. “Give it back.”

“Of course,” Henry said calmly. “I have no reason to keep it.”

And I had no choice but to sit opposite this pompous ass for the entire evening.

Sipping my drink, I continued to make polite conversation, trying to avoid that devilishly handsome face across from me.

“It’s good to see you, Charlotte,” said Henry, during a lull in the conversation. “You appear…different.”

Yeah,he really had gone there.

Richard leaned forward to get his attention. “What can you tell us about the new brand you’re working on?”

Henry’s brow arched. “It’s under wraps.”

“I saw the billboard campaign for Dandelion Diva,” I said brightly. “Have you seen it?”

“Our competitor’s campaign?” Henry sounded peeved.
