I couldn’t wait to see him.

When the limo pulled up behind the hotel, I felt a wave of doubt. There would be no walking the red carpet.

Still, I planned on having fun.

But I’d have to walk into the ballroom alone.

Rallying my confidence, I checked my makeup in my compact’s mirror.Damn girl,I mused at my reflection. I hadn’t dressed up quite this glamorous since the last Cole party.

I elbowed him.

He laughed trying to avoid another strike.

“Is Rue here, Shay?”

“You’re working, too?”

“Try not to over think it.” He gestured for me to go inside first.

I walked through the staff entrance and spun around to face him. “I’m being handled. You’re handling me?”

He stepped forward and rested his hands on my shoulders. “Henry has this. Enjoy tonight. Trust him.”

“I do.”Or at least I wanted to.

“Have a few drinks. Dance a little—”
