“Act like I’ve never met the Coles?”

He gave an apologetic nod.

“I’m a pariah.”

“Yeah, but you’re a hot pariah.”

Despite being the scandal, the only way to deal with this was to pretend the press had it wrong. I was an acquaintance of the Cole brothers. Our not talking all night would prove that.

It made me wonder if Cameron would ignore me as well.

“Is Henry here?” I asked, sliding my arm through Shay’s.

“Yes.”

“With Reese?”

He paused and stepped away from me. “We don’t need a show—”

“Fuck off.”

“You didn’t let me finish. Henry’s been busy on his speech. It’s imperative he owns the story. Play your part.”

I was glad I’d worn this figure-hugging gown. My tits looked amazing.

“Scarlet, Richard and Mia aren’t here.”

I paused for a beat. “Then why am I here?”

“A certain gentleman wouldn’t have it any other way.”

I could endure an evening of observing Reese flirt with Henry. I was mature enough for any emotional challenge. At least that’s what I told myself.

Shay tapped my purse. “Give me your phone.”

“Why?”

He took my purse and opened it, pulling out my iPhone. “Here.” He held it up to me. The face recognition software granted him access.

Cheeky bastard.

“What’s wrong?” I wondered if someone had hacked it.

“I have to hide all messages pertaining to him.”

The ones I’d saved from Henry because they made me happy when I re-read them.

Shay’s fingers nimbly glided over my screen. “Why don’t you have my app?”

“CloudSource?” I frowned up at him. “I don’t have anything to hide.”

“Other than you’re fucking America’s most eligible bachelor.”

“Don’t be crass.”

“I’ve downloaded my app for free. You’re welcome.”

My heart missed a beat. “Did Henry tell you to do this?”
