“Everyone was surprised you left,” he said. “Considering I’m a hot catch.”
“My Henry!”
“I am, Lotte. If you’ll have me.”
“Yes!”
He kissed my forehead. “I didn’t want you to turn down this job if it’s what you really wanted.”
“I only took it because I didn’t believe you and I could be together.”
“That was never the case.” He pulled me closer.
My face was squished against his firm chest, and I wanted to stay like this forever.
Then I remembered, pushing back from him and turning to face his brother.
Cameron had the signed contract tucked in his jacket pocket. That legally binding document could stop my happiness in its tracks.
“What should I do?” I asked Cameron, pleading.
“Go have some fun,” he said. “You guys are way too serious.”
Henry flinched when he saw de Sade standing in the doorway naked. “For God’s sake, man,” snapped Henry. “Go put some clothes on.”
De Sade ignored him and zeroed in on Cameron. “Did she sign it?”
“No,” replied Cameron. “And I doubt she will.”
“Our loss,” said de Sade with the shimmer of a tease.
I fell against Henry as he wrapped me in a hug. “You came for me.”
“And I always will,” he whispered.
Acool breeze blew over Lake Geneva.
This time, a month later, we’d flown in during the day, arriving just in time for lunch, which would be served in the luxurious setting of our parent’s lawn.
We’d be fine-dining with one of the finest views of the Alps.
The butler greeted us at the front door—straight to business as usual.
Cameron and I took the familiar path along the sprawling hallways of our parent’s Swiss home. For Lotte, it was her first time visiting Switzerland.
I knew she’d love the adventure of flying here with us. She’d already been introduced to my parents at the garden party a few weeks back.
Cameron stopped me from entering the room. “You asked for no more surprises,” he said. “Dad’s going to announce something at dinner.”
My back stiffened. “Am I going to like it?”
Instinctively, I wanted to reach for Lotte’s hand to protect her.
Cameron lowered his voice. “C. R. Cole Tower is to be renamed the Henry M. Cole Tower.”
Lotte gasped her delight.
It took me a few more seconds to process. “You don’t mind?”
