He shrugged. “You have a solid background in psychology. If you want to join my practice in Beverly Hills, you’d be welcome.”

A rush of hope hit me—it was a possibility I’d not even considered. “Go mainstream?”

“Life is change.” He patted my arm. “The only certainty.”

“True.”

“Opportunities can come from anywhere. Be ready.”

I tried to read his meaning. It was as though he knew something, or sensed it. Or maybe Cameron merely detected my melancholy.

“You’re looking beautiful.” His eyes crinkled as he smiled with affection. “I’m not the only one who noticed.”

He meant Henry.

For some reason that thought brought a wave of giddiness.

“It’s because I’m wearing one of your wife’s gowns,” I said. “Mia is talented.”

“I’m biased, but she is.” He beamed with adoration for her.

The great Cameron Cole was still love-struck.

“Oh, pretty.” I pointed down at the beach, at a bride in a lace gown who was gliding ethereally along a strip of red carpet laid upon the sand. A nervous groom awaited her beneath an arch covered in flowers.

I hummed dreamily. “A beach wedding.”

As though reading my mind Cameron said, “You’ll find him.”

I nudged his arm playfully. “It’s perfectly acceptable to be single and happy.”

“I agree.” Cameron continued to observe the wedding party.

Following his line of sight, both of us checked out the guests who’d turned to watch the bride make her way down the “aisle.”

The bride stood close to the groom beneath the flowery arch, their faces lit up with happiness, the groom finally relaxing because she’d joined him.

I felt enamored by their romance. “They’re cute.”

Cameron’s expression turned dark.

“What?” I glanced back at the couple.

“Look.” He pointed farther down the beach at the small rockets embedded in the sand. “Fireworks.”

Cameron had to be afraid they might trigger Henry’s PTSD.

My pulse quickened at the sight of them.

Cameron’s brother could still be heard talking at the podium in front of hundreds of guests.

“We have to warn him!” I said, grabbing Cameron’s arm.

We sped back into the ballroom.

Aplan came together quickly.

Cameron hurried ahead and took the first door that would lead him to the reception desk in the foyer.
