I went to warn Henry.

Standing a few feet from the podium, I discreetly tried signaling him to get his attention. He glanced over at me with a frown and then peered down at his notes, continuing to woo the audience.

I moved closer. “Henry.”

Subtly, he gestured for me to wait.

“You have to come with me,” I whispered. “It’s important.”

My iPhone buzzed and I read the text from Cameron:Get him to room 407.

Continuing to ignore me, Henry addressed the audience. “The Cole family would like to thank all of you for everything you have done—and continue to do—for our foundation. Your dedication to our causes never goes unnoticed. You’re making a difference by helping save lives.”

He threw a salute to the audience, and I could feel their collective stares burning into my back.

Henry came away from the podium. “This better be good.”

“This way.” I led him around the tables toward the back of the ballroom and onward through the foyer toward the elevators.

“Where are we going?” he snapped.

I punched the elevator button a few times. “You have to trust me.”

“You’re not the only one who can give a good spanking,” he joked.

I faced him. “The hotel next door is about to launch fireworks.”

He glowered. “And your point?”

“Cameron and I thought…” I swallowed hard. “We got you a room—number 407—if you want to use it.”

“Is this Cameron’s idea?”

“Both, really.”

“Fuck!” He shoved open the door to a stairwell, leaving it open for me.

“The elevator will be here any second,” I said.

He headed up the stairs. “You interrupted my speech for this?”

“You go on. I’ll be slower in these shoes!”

He came back down the steps. “Isn’t it four floors up?”

With a tug of my hem, I showed him my six-inch heels.

“Want my help?” he asked casually.

“Sure.”

He quickly lifted me up and threw me over his shoulder. Within seconds we were flying up the stairs.

I should have had him clarify the type of help he was offering.

“Henry!” Being upside down, I had a nice view of his ass.

“Your idea, Charlotte.”
