Silence settled over us, but it wasn’t uncomfortable.

He looked thoughtful. “You edge pleasure?”

“Yes.”

“I’ve edged death.” He shrugged.

“Terrifying.”

“Terror is the kindest thing they do.”

“Henry—”

His hand snapped up. “The experience made me an astute businessman.”

“I believe that.”

The experience had also profoundly changed him. Cameron had revealed little, except that his brother was hardly recognizable when he came back.

“You’re beautiful.” Henry gave me a kind smile. “I should have told you before.”

“So are you. I mean, you’re very handsome in a tuxedo.” And out of one, too, I imagined.

He strolled toward me. “Give me your hand.”

“Why?”

He reached out and took my wrist. Lifting my palm to his lips, he kissed it tenderly, his mouth grazing my fingers with soft caresses.

It left me breathless with my world spinning.

I quickly tucked my purse under my arm.

Reaching up, I worked at his necktie to neaten it. His cologne wafted around me and stirred my core, arousal washing over me.

I saw the immediate change in him, the moment he recognized our chemistry.

“It’s a pity,” he said softly.

“What is?”

“We come from such different worlds,” he said, his tone filled with regret. “Otherwise, you and I could be more to each other.”

“Different worlds?”

“You’re…”

“Working class?”

“I meant the other situation.”

He meant me being a dominatrix.
