She seemed anxious. “Charlotte Chamberlain is in your office.”

I didn’t hide my surprise.

“Is it a problem?” she asked.

I glanced at my Rolex. It was 9:00 A.M.

“Lotte doesn’t have an appointment.” Jen kept up with me all the way to the office door. “But she did have a VIP pass.”

I felt a rush of anticipation and drew in a sharp breath.

“I’ll take it from here,” I said.

Jen opened the door to my office.

I went in and shut it behind me.

Charlotte sat seductively on the edge of my desk, gorgeously chic in a pencil skirt and a golden blouse. Her coat had been discarded on one of the armchairs, along with her Prada handbag. The only hint at her profession was a pair of knee-high boots.

“Good morning,” I said, refusing to be thrown by the woman who outshone the sun.

Her striking grace made me forget myself.

Lotte slid off the desk and strolled by me like she owned the room. In this moment, she did.

A waft of delicate perfume brought back memories of our time together at Shutters two days ago—both of us sitting on the secluded bathroom floor, the conversation flowing naturally despite the circumstances.

I recalled over-compensating for my embarrassment by being an ass.

Lotte’s presence was alluring. Mesmerizing, really.

And she hadn’t even spoken a word.

I shook off my trance. “Hello, there. This is a nice surprise.”

“So this is where the great Henry Cole reigns supreme?”

I smirked at her brashness.

“You have a great office.”

“I like it.” I walked over to my desk. “Cameron called you in a pass?”

“Shay.” She lowered her gaze. “We had breakfast.”

“Good. Why?”

“We’re friends.”

I wondered what they’d talked about. Hopefully not me.

She stepped closer. “I wanted to see how you’re doing.”

“Oh,” I said, wishing we could both forget Saturday. “I’m fine.”

“I left without saying goodbye,” she said.

“You were missed. It wasn’t because of me, I hope?”
