I kept my calm façade in place.

Even the seemingly mundane made me flinch.

Fuck them.

Fuck their ability to ruin mynow. So much had been stolen from me.

So damn much.

I snatched the material out of her hand. “Fuck it.”

“That’s the attitude.”

She pulled away from the curb and continued to navigate the neighborhood.

Reaching up, I secured the blindfold to my face.

The car took several turns as though she was trying to shake off my sense of direction.

Her perfume and the way she reached over to squeeze my arm to reassure me made this intriguing.

The car came to stop.

“Can I take this off?” I tugged at it.

“Yes.”

Dragging the blindfold away from my face, I blinked at the restaurant we’d pulled up to, and noticed the fancy insignia on the awning.

She flashed me a mischievous grin. “We’re here.”

“I guessed that.”

“You do look very handsome,” she said, drawing my focus back to her.

I might have taken extra time to style my hair, paying more attention to the cologne I chose and wearing cufflinks that carried the Cole crest—because I was trying to impress her.

I met her gaze. “You look absolutely stunning tonight.”

“Well done.”

Her patronizing remark made me wince. “Stop that.”

“I’m just messing with you.”

I reached over and brushed a strand of hair out of her face. “I’d prefer you treat me with respect.”

Her eyelids fluttered as though she’d been affected. A fleeting moment passed between us—intimacy, a rare connection.
