“I’m not getting involved.” I shoved a cracker into my mouth and hummed over the delicious tang.

“Involved?”

“Nothing happened.”

Other than the fact I’d never wanted a woman so damn much.

Dex scampered back to Lotte with the ball in his mouth. She must have thrown it countless times for him already.

She patiently threw it again.

I thought hard on how many faults she’d revealed, trying to make this easier to accept.

None, as far as I can see.

Cameron followed my line of sight. “She’s your type.”

“You have no idea what my type is.”

He arched a brow. “Well?”

It was useless trying to get anything past him. “She’s perfect except for her profession.”

“I hope you didn’t say that to her.”

“Of course not.”Not in so many words.

Maybe a secret affair was in our future.

Aunt Rose joined Lotte at the edge of the lawn. They appeared to be getting along well, sharing a laugh over Dex’s tireless enthusiasm for his ball.

“Stop staring,” said Cameron.

“You should have warned me about this house,” I said, changing the subject.

“I tried.”

I scanned the towering walls. “What am I meant to do with all these rooms?”

“Invite us round.”

If they visited, there would be laughter here at least some of the time.

He ate another cracker and chewed thoughtfully. “If you want to sell it, I’ll support you.”

“Thank you,” I said. “I appreciate that.”

His expression turned serious. “Something else is bothering you. Share it with me. And it’s not just the house.”

The only way he’d realize Lilly had visited Cole Tower was if he replayed the security tapes of us talking in the café.

I wasn’t going to share that—or the reason for Lilly’s visit. Not until I felt ready.

“Our advertising campaign.”

He studied me for the longest time, clearly not believing me. “Not my department.”

“Seriously?”
