“What are your thoughts, son?” he asked me, his gaze steady.

The crushing truth hit me in a moment of self-reflection. “It’s missing an ingredient?”

“Cameron?” asked Dad.

“It’s great,” he said. “A new favorite.”

This one would have my name on it. It would be a signature brand that was my offering to the art of the craft, and it was worth trying for perfection.

I rubbed my brow, admitting defeat. “We’re not there yet,” I said. “Thanks for your honesty.”

Cameron studied me. “I’ll support whatever you decide.”

“This has the potential to knock Dandelion Diva off the shelves,” said Dad.

“Dad, you’ve been at this a lot longer,” said Cameron, clearly to reassure me.

“Will Dandelion Divabe a problem for us?” Dad asked, sounding concerned.

All we had to go on was what Shay had dug up so far.

“They play dirty with their competitors,” said Cameron. “We suspect they are doing the same with us.”

Dad turned to me. “Strategy?”

“We have a team investigating them,” I said with confidence.

“Shay is leading the fight?” he asked.

I gave a nod. “We believe they’re the ones who placed our corporate spy.”

A troubled expression crossed Dad’s face.

I hated him knowing that our beloved company was under threat. The thought of someone working against us from the inside hurt.

Cameron and I swapped a wary glance.

“It’s just a matter of figuring out who it is,” I said. “We’re focusing on it night and day.”

“Wily fuckers,” Dad muttered.

Cameron and I both had to suppress a smile. Our dad hardly ever swore.

“We’re offering a superior brand,” I reasoned. “Our integrity gives us our edge.”

Dad let out a heavy sigh. “And once you find out who’s spying?”

I gave a shrug. “We crush them.”

I’d contradicted myself too many times.

I kept telling Henry I considered myself a good friend, but that wasn’t how I’d conducted myself back at Charlie’s—teasing him.

Which was why I’d come here, to prove we were capable of having a platonic relationship, breaking the ice again before crossing paths at another Cole event.

Our kiss wasn’t an issue.

We were just two people mature enough to help each other weather this life. Cameron had mentioned his concerns that Henry had appeared fraught over a personal issue.
