I rallied my courage. “Hello, Henry. How are you?”
“I’m guessing it’s no coincidence you and I are at the same airport.”
“I was born in Florida. The location you’re going to is called the Amazon of North America. I grew up in similar terrain.”
“You grew up in a preserve?”
“No, of course not. The Florida terrain—”
“This is too dangerous to include—”
“Say ‘a woman’ and I’ll thump you.”
“I was going to say someone I care about.”
That caused me to pause before saying, “You told Cameron you were letting Shay handle it.”
“He’s the one who sent you?”
“Maybe.”
He glanced down at my suitcase. “It would have been fun to watch you wheel that down the trails.”
“My rucksack is in my suitcase.”
“Makes sense,” he said, sounding sarcastic.
“I’ll leave my luggage in the hotel.”
He glowered. “We should check out other tourist destinations while we’re there.”
“I’m on your side, Henry. You deserve answers.”
He shook his head. “I’ll have a car take you home.”
“Cameron will ground your jet.”
His jaw flexed in frustration. “I’ll fly Virgin.”
“They don’t fly out of here.”
“Thank you, Lotte, you’re already proving indispensable.”
I smiled sweetly. “This is what it’s like to be loved.”
“You love me?” He cocked a brow.
I rolled my eyes. “By your brother.”
That made him smirk.
“I need to do this,” I said softly.
“You’ll slow me down.”
“I’m trying to work out what I want in life. I’ve been offered a job, but I’m scared to leave Chrysalis. This trip will clear my head so I can see things differently.”
He scratched the back of his neck, mulling over my confession.
