“For what?”
He pressed his chest to mine, setting my body alight and sparking all kinds of responses from his proximity.
“For the housewarming gift,” he clarified. “A snow globe of New York.”
“My pleasure,” I said, sounding breathless. “It’s to tide you over until you can fly back and get your city fix.”
“I’ll treasure it.”
“I thought you might hide it away.”
“It has pride of place on my desk.”
His words warmed my heart.
“Lotte, I’m restricted in many decisions,” he said, “as you’ve personally witnessed.” His lips turned up. “But you, you’re beautiful and kind and funny. Everything that’s good in this world. You’ll choose the right path. Trust in yourself.”
My lips brushed his. “I do. I mean, I will.”
A prayer slipped through my mind that the world would change, and society would allow us to be together.
But I didn’t really want that to happen withthisman?
Did I?
He brushed his fingers up my arm causing the skin to tingle. “Someone needed to say it to you.”
“I appreciate it.”
He tilted his head in thought. “Offering to accompany me despite the danger reflects on who you really are.”
My core ached for him, my body desperate for him to press his chest harder against mine, against my pert nipples, soothing their need.
Take me.
Enter me.
Right here against the dividing door. Bang me into oblivion.
He pushed away. “Get some sleep.”
I started to protest but he was already reaching for the door knob behind me.
I stepped aside and let him open it.
He walked into his room and closed the door behind him, leaving me alone again.
I contemplated the perilous chemistry between us.
I’d always been the strong one, the woman who knew her boundaries. But for some reason, with him, I surrendered to the point of disorientation—conquered merely by his presence.
It was a dick move to leave without Lotte.
But she’d be safer at the Ritz Carlton. She could take a dip in the hotel pool, drink cocktails and relax. Swim in the ocean.
She could stay the weekend and fly back with me late Monday, taking advantage of an all-expense paid trip.
Hell, she could even go shopping if she wanted to, using my credit card.
