“Not much.”

“And you didn’t think to tell me about it.”

“Telling you now.”

“Stella mentioned a woman being there. Who is she?”

I could say she was no one special, but that felt like a betrayal. “I’m still investigating what that place offers.”

Investigating Eve’s background, too. The woman who’d captured my attention. The woman who could either be my downfall or elevate my life beyond anything I’d ever imagined.

Greyson stepped closer. “You’ve been disengaged. Spending more time at Pendulum. Not telling me when you’re there.”

“Do I have to check in with you now?” I snapped.

“Don’t pull that on me. What’s going on?”

“Let’s discuss this later.”

“I have a security detail now?”

“Cameron and I thought it wise.”

“You asked me to stay away from Pendulum. Want to tell me why?”

“The place is too dangerous.”

“Meanwhile, you can’t get enough of it.”

“Keep your voice down.”

“You keepyourvoice down.”

“Greyson, shut the fuck up.”

“Says the guy swaggering around Pendulum like he already owns the place.”

“I kind of do.”

“Arrogant fuck.” This time there was no smile.

I changed the subject. “I’m concerned about how fast you’ve fallen for that girl.”

“Girl?”

I’d poked the hornet’s nest.

“Are you even listening to me!” Greyson stepped closer, matching my height and looking a lot like he was willing to fight over her.

I’d not seen that coming. Greyson was the passive one, the gentleman amongst the rogues. Only now, he’d balled his hands into fists and was ready to fight.

“What are you doing?” I said, annoyed.

Jake stalked toward us. We’d drawn his attention. Cameron followed him over with a casual curiosity.

Jake gestured for us to stop. “Don’t think I won’t throw you both out.”

I ignored that jibe.
