“Where are we going?”
“We’re actually having dinner.”
“We’re ordering in?” I noted his look of amusement. “There’s a restaurant?”
“There is.”
I’d been invited into the heart of Chrysalis. No way were we just having dinner and then leaving. “I want to see the chambers.”
“Not tonight.” He smiled at me. “We would end up in a session.”
“You don’t want that?”
“That’s not why we’re here.”
“Then why?”
He squeezed my hand. “To talk. Get to know each other.”
“We’re free now to do anything we want. Surely, the first thing we should be doing is…”
“I’m protective of you, Eve. You didn’t choose this life, it chose you. There needs to be some self-reflection to determine if you would ever want to indulge in this lifestyle again.”
“Are you saying you don’t think I’ll return to Pendulum?”
“There’s no reason.”
“We both know that’s not true.”
“We are handling the situation at Pendulum.”
We stepped inside a lavish restaurant.
I dropped his hand and turned to face him. “Shouldn’t we be pulling the fire alarms and letting everyone escape?”
He drew in a sharp breath. “They rotate them, Eve. Not all subs are housed at Pendulum.”
“We’d only be saving a few?”
“Right. And that’s unacceptable.”
The air was filled with a subtle fragrance, a signature scent that complemented the refined ambiance and added to the immersive experience. Soft background music, a classical melody, enhanced the tranquility.
“Tell me what you’d like,” he said, voice husky.
“Are we eating first?”
“I meant food wise.”
“Then?” I teased.
“Then home to my place.”
Hishome and that made me happy. Eloise loved the beach. All three of us had fun today building sandcastles and swimming.
Still, I couldn’t stay there anymore, we both knew that. Not untilthe other issues were resolved—and me being shacked-up with a lover wasn’t a good look right now.
I winked playfully. “Are we allowed a tour?”
