She was different.

In her eyes I saw the change—the reflection of an empowered woman who would never again be swayed to do anything against her will.

Somehow, someway, I was able to draw our session to a close.

It was done.

A submissive helped her put on her clothes, while I admired her flushed face, bright with a happiness she couldn’t hide.

Turning back to the asshole demeanor that was expected of me, I pointed toward the door, permitting her to leave.

Eve walked away, strolling like a supermodel with pride in each step, her expression as serene as the day I’d first met her.

She’d taken back her power.

Eve may have left the room, but I still felt her presence.

We had indeed created the ultimate distraction.

The crowd seemed reluctant to disperse.

Honestly, I’d envisioned myself participating in more than just a session tonight.

I needed to place my faith in those who had better access. After all, women were more likely to trust women. Leading them outside would be more efficient this way. They had probably lost faith in everyone else.

But I was here if they needed me.

Jewel narrowed her gaze on me. Then she left with that same scheming expression.

I headed toward the bar, not wanting to answer questions or hear the applause of the crowd.

That would taint what we’d shared. It may have been presented in front of an audience, but it was far from being for them.

Eve was as forbidden as she was sublime.

The rush still surged through me from experiencing the most remarkable session withher. She’d flourished, as I knew she would. If anyone detected we were more, I was past caring.

She’d also partly done this as afuck youto the man who’d hurt her beyond belief. She’d finally tasted empowerment at Pendulum.

Tonight, the subs would finally be free—which meant Eve would step through that invisible door to freedom.

She’d covertly returned to the sixth floor to escort the submissives into the secret corridors surrounding the club. Only she and a few others knew that route. It was a good plan. It should work.

The secrecy of them coming and going had been navigated by those who paid attention to their movements, those with access to their presence.

I took my drink and left the bar, needing some alone time.

The anteroom was empty, so I took a few minutes to finish my bourbon and mull over when it would be safe to check on everyone.

Greyson burst through the door.

The spell cast by my session with Eve was broken when I read his serious expression.

“You okay?” I asked him.

“Who was that woman?” he asked. “The mysterious lady from the sixth floor?”

I wasn’t going to insult Eve by saying she was no one when in fact she was everything to me.
