And so were they, which was why we got on so well.

Once out of my silver McLaren, I handedover my keys to the valet and then headed over to my friends, who were standing beneath an awning.

“Jake’s caught in traffic,” I conveyed his message to them.

We moved away from the valet kiosk so we could talk.

As Cameron brought me in for a hug, I felt the fine material of his jacket.Even a causal brunch had him dressed in Versace. Greyson slapped my back with affection. He was no different, shedding his usual designer jeans and T-shirt for an English blazer and slacks.

I’d refused to wear a tie and flung my navy-blue jacket over my shoulder to make a point. I needed a good meal and a glass of something cold without ostentation.

“Good to see you,” said Cameron, eyeing my creased pants from the drive over.

I smirked. “I don’t have thousands of servants like you.”

Cameron looked amused. “We have a chef and a maid. And that’s it.”

“And a PA, a gardener, and a pool cleaner,” added Greyson.

“I mow the lawn sometimes.” Cameron arched a brow. “Shay’s offering more security. I’ve managed to dodge that.”

That made me nervous for him.

“You’re a Cole.” I glanced at Greyson. “You both need more protection, not less.”

Cameron ignored that. “What’s going on?”

I clenched my jaw at the impending drama. “Last night, Jake left Pendulum with one of their subs.”

“Interesting. A spy?” asked Cameron.

He always cut through the bullshit.

“Jake rescued her,” said Greyson. “She was almost auctioned off.”

“Jake’s type,” said Cameron.

I admired his insight. “Exactly.”

Cameron tilted his head. “Getting close to her might be a good idea. He can win her over. Tell us who she’s working for.”

I gave a nod. “If he agrees.”

“What have you discovered otherwise?”

I tucked my hands into my pockets in frustration.

“Unethical activity?” added Cameron.

“We interviewed a few subs. One of them, Elle, admitted she came there via suspicious circumstances. I’ve offered to get her out.”

“Soon as feasible,” said Cameron.

“Rylee came to my place this morning,” I said. “There was an incident at Jake’s.”

“On Mulholland?” asked Cameron. “What happened?”

We turned to see Jake’s Lamborghini pulling up to the valet.
