Her place, that’s convenient.

Relief flashed in her gaze. “Thank you, sir.”

“Go,” he ordered.

Stella rejoined Jewel at their table.

“I’ll control her,” said Jake.

Cameron gave a nod of confirmation. “We know you will.”

“Can we get back on track?” said Jake.

Cameron bristled. “Make sure Rylee knows she’s playing with fire. Lance is a narcissistic psychopath. He’ll incinerate her.”

Greyson chuckled. “Bit extreme.”

He regretted it when he received one of Cameron’s disapproving glares. “Not extreme,” Cole added. “People with psychopathy don’t just function in society but thrive.” He went on to school Greyson in all the ways psychopaths ruin lives.

Lance was a sick fuck.

We all knew that.

Being at Pendulum had triggered his own brand of madness.

Continuing to listen, I peeked beneath the table to discreetly glance at my phone, having missed several calls from an unknown number.

I wasn’t on-call, so I could ignore them for now.

Jake mentioned something about hitting Lance inside his dungeon. At some point they’d moved the argument down there.

I zeroed back in on Jake. “Why invite Lance into your dungeon?”

“I didn’t,” he snapped.

The bastard had lured him there.

The conversation deteriorated. With everyone blaming Rylee for inviting Lance back, and Jake blaming himself.

Rylee went for bad boys, but Lance was evil incarnate. Something else had to be going on there.

“I’d have killed the fucker,” I muttered, looking down at my phone.

A text read: “I need to see you.”

Same number as the missed calls.

I texted back: “Who are you?”

“It’s Eve.”

A thrill shuddered through me.

The one woman I wanted and couldn’t have, impossible to conquer. And now I had her number.

How the hell had she gotten mine?

A trap called “Stella” had been set for Jake. Perhaps now they were coming for me through Eve. Cameron and Greyson were both in relationships, so they’d be immune to pussy traps, but not Jake. And certainly not me.
