I drove away not making the phone call that would bring justice. Not right now, anyway. Roper could decimate too many lives if the situation wasn’t handled with wisdom. He had the means, the money, and the power.

Anyway, I had the others to think about—I had to protect Jake, Greyson, and Cameron at all costs.

My hands were surprisingly calm on the steering wheel as I navigated along the main road, back through canyons lined with multi-million-dollar homes protected by iron gates to keep the world out.

Eve was on the wrong side of history.

That much was certain.

I had to do everything in my power to change this fact. I wasn’t going to let her mistakes define her future.

Or maybe it was too late for her.

Despite what I’d witnessed, or what I’d heard, I refused to let this go. Refused to letthatman win, even with his dire warning echoing in my mind.

Roper didn’t know me or anything about my past. Or why I fought for women. He wouldn’t comprehend why I wanted to create a place where they were free and equal, where they could make their own choices on their own terms.

I wouldn’t rest until Pendulum’s legacy was one of liberation, not oppression. If Eve refused to be part of this because of the secrets she harbored, then I’d have to live with it.

Death had never scared me. The endless night of non-existence had always been an intoxicating allure.

Until her.The woman who tasted like honey and softened against me like we were created for each other.

Pendulum was now in my sights more than it ever had been before.

Roper had fucked with the wrong man.

Cameron Cole liked to keep his skills sharp.

That much was obvious.

Understated elegance and comfort were the best ways to describehismedical reception. He apparently worked his genius in a privately owned space within this architectural wonder off Rodeo Drive.

His psychoanalysis sessions had resumed at this office right after he’d handed over the reins of Cole Tea to Henry.

Cole balanced his time between this and his philanthropic pursuits. He needed both to feel fulfilled, I’d heard. Turning away from medicine was never an option.

I admired him for that. For being a man wealthy enough to live with selfish abandon and yet remaining dedicated to his profession. I wondered how many of his patients knew their psychiatrist was a billionaire.

Only his closest friends would know he also had a passion forindulging in rare pleasures at a secret hideaway he’d created called Chrysalis.

“Do you have an appointment?” asked the fortyish receptionist squinting at her computer screen to check for my name.

I waited for her to see it wasn’t there.

Cameron had no idea I was coming to see him.

If I was being followed by Aemon’s men, this might arouse interest. Then again, perhaps I’d pass as a man merely visiting his doctor.

Cream-colored walls and luxury furnishings with muted blues and greens offered a relaxing setting. Plenty of sunshine streamed in through the skylight.

Cameron had a way of capturing light as though he could harness its energy.

He also had an uncanny ability to read a person’s soul.

Like he was doing now, leaning against the doorjamb of his office in that suave way, wearing a dark suit with his tie off.

“Hey.” He hid his surprise at seeing me and motioned for me to follow him.
