Greyson turned to face me, horrified I was holding her phone. “What are you doing?”

I needed him to see what was happening here. This girl hadembedded herself into our lives. I held up her phone to Greyson to show him what Amelia had written about him.

He eased her phone out of my hands and handed it back to her. Then turned to face me. “Seriously?”

Fury ran though my veins that he didn’t take the opportunity to look after himself.

Amelia threw the blanket off. “I’ll leave.”

“Stay,” he said.

There was something in her fear. The way she broke eye contact. The way she reflected shame.

Again, I had that gut-wrenching sense she wasn’t real.

I stepped closer. “Who are you working for?”

“I’m not,” she said, sounding offended.

“Who at Pendulum put you up to this?”

Greyson grabbed my arm. “We need to talk.”

“Get her to answer!” I yelled.

“Atticus!” Greyson gestured to the door. “Please.”

Relenting, I followed him out of the bedroom.

He slammed the door behind us. No sound came from the room. I hoped I’d scared her.

We made our way back downstairs and returned to the kitchen.

Greyson stood facing me, both of us steaming with suppressed anger, his nostrils flaring, my hands forming into fists.

“Was there anything in her phone I should be concerned with?” he said finally, seemingly more rational than me.

“It’s the circumstances of how she came into our lives,” I replied calmly.

“My life.”

“She was…” Saying that she belonged to Jake first would be cruel. He didn’t need reminding.

“Is this because of Stella?” He frowned. “You think Amelia is a spy like her?”

“Honestly, I don’t know.”

The emotional expression in his eyes told me it was too late for him.

I lowered my voice. “I know you like her.”

“Love…I love her.”

“Greyson.”

“I hadn’t heard from you in two days. I was concerned. So, we came here to cheer you up. Instead, we get treated like the enemy.”

“I’m looking out for you.”
