Arkville would be a wrap after tonight. The closer the fire got to my car, I drove further away. The people that lived out this way had already been notified to evacuate, thanks to Detavio and my men that started a smaller fire earlier closer to the woods.
My phone vibrated in my pocket before I reached to retrieve it, I knew that it was Natavi. I looked at the screen in disappointment when I realized that I was wrong.
“It’s done,” I spoke into the phone.
Detavio remained quiet for a couple of seconds before speaking.
“I know it’s done, that’s not why I was calling,” he said into the phone.
I remained quiet as I thought about anything else that he could possibly be calling me for. I also wondered how he was processing all of this being that he was the one raised by Impurity. Detavio rarely talked on the phone, let alone texted. I was the same way until Natavi came along. She had me doing a lot of shit out of my norm.
“How do you ask a woman out…like on a date?” he asked lowly.
My fingers tightened around the phone in my hand as I watched the flames dance in my rearview mirror. It licked at the sky with wild hunger and illuminated Arkville with a raging glow. I felt the heat that pressed against my window, if I was in the same mind frame that I was in before meeting Natavi, I probably would have let the fire swallow me whole.
I took in a slow deep breath then turned the key. My headlights carved a path through the ash like dead snow. There were no sirens, nobody outside wailing over this hell bound of a city. The road stretched ahead of me, cracked in empty with trash that spun in circles from the violent wind.
“Monster!” Detavio yelled into the phone.
“She’s been away less than a week; give her space and time,” I uttered.
“I want her here…I also want her to go to the red-carpet event with me as my date,” he added.
“I have a surprise for you at your event...that’s if you stop bugging me. I might ask Natavi tonight to invite Angel to the event.” I smirked just as I turned on the main road.
“You’ve seen her, haven’t you?” He spat into the phone with venom in his tone.
“Of course, I have.” I chuckled.
“For a woman that was kidnapped, she sure was extra happy,” I added.
“You’re fired as the chief of my security.” He threatened.
“I bet, I am. Natavi talked me into starting a topflight security of the world company. I got enough money to not work for you anymore, especially now since Impurity is gone.” I chuckled, amused with his tantrum.
“Monster?” Detavio called my name in a more serious tone of voice.
“What?” I snapped.
“Did she ask about me? You hear her mention me to Natavi?” His voice held the same hope that I had while holding my breath, hoping that Natavi didn’t really leave me once I destroyed all the new furniture she had delivered to my house.
I shook my head, because Detavio didn’t realize that he had fucked around and fell in love with Angel. If it was left up to him, he’d stalk her all over again. I didn’t fully believe him when he told me that he let her go and removed all camera footage from her house.
“That crosses the line. I don’t eavesdrop on?—”
“You do! You went through Natavi’s phone, remember?”
“I’ll see you in a few days--”
“Wait! Monster! Listen!” He panicked.
“Talk to Natavi, have her invite Angel. I want to see her.” He rushed his words out.
“No, see you going about it wrong, Mr. Decebal.” I taunted.
“Don’t refer to me as that.” I didn’t miss the disdain in his voice.
“You and Angel will not seep into me in Natavi’s relationship.” I stated.
