Soon as wepulled in front of Monni’s house, I hopped out and slammed the truck door. I didn’t bother to help him get any of the many bags that was in his trunk. I don’t know why I was pissed, I couldn’t even pinpoint if I was angry or petrified with what I felt back in the mall.
All I know is something dawned on me, my intuition screamed inside of me that Monni had did some monstrous shit inside of the restroom. When he walked out, his eyes were void of any emotion, he was back looking like a zombie in the eyes. He didn’t even come to my table to get me, he just simply locked eyes with me and walked out of the food court.
Did he plan to leave me there after he did some shit concerning Howard? I didn’t know, but all of it had me pissed. I was also mad because our day was going good before Howard popped out of nowhere bumping into me just to gain my attention. What made it worse was that Howard was Chedda’s uncle. I prayed that Monni didn’t do nothing besides beat his ass as a warning to not fuck with me anymore.
My phone rung, it pulled me out of my thoughts. I got excited instantly seeing Angel’s name pop up on the screen.
“I thought you forgot all about me.” I smiled.
I stood up and shut my room door, ignoring Monni’s heavy boots that stomped against his wooden floor. I hadn’t heard from Angel in weeks, that was not how we got down. I flopped down on my hard ass bed and rubbed up and down my right arm. I instantly felt relaxed as I soothed myself from the worries that today brought.
“I didn’t forget about you. I miss you so much, Tavi. There’s so much that I need to tell you. When are you free?” Angel talked fast like she was in a rush.
“I’m with a client for three more weeks, but I’m free to leave and do my own thing. You want to meet tomorrow? Let’s go out and do some stuff.” I couldn’t contain my excitement.
“Okay, where do you want to meet?” Angel asked.
My stomach did flips, I could tell that something was wrong with her. Her voice lacked its usual life and excitement. It made me get worried instantly. Usually, Angel would have complained about me being with a client, today she didn’t say anything about it.
“Angel, you, okay?”
“I’m okay, girl. Just been bored with a lot on my mind. I think living alone is really starting to get to me. I’m used to being in the house with you, well when you’re not with a client.” She chuckled dryly.
“Well, this my last client, I can’t wait to tell—” I stopped talking.
I couldn’t tell Angel right now why Monni was my last client. I didn’t want to bring trouble her way and I wasn’t sure if Monni was eavesdropping.
“Why you stop talking?” Angel asked.
“Cause I’m talking too much, but yeah…I’m really done with Chedda, and I’m done with having clients after my time is up here, girl. I promise.” It felt so good saying those words.
I looked at the corner of my room, although it was empty and cold inside of here, my suitcase was filled to capacity with one-hundred-dollar bills. I got super excited just thinking about all the money that I had and before we got to the mall, Monni stopped and bought me an extra-large suitcase. He promised to let me fill that one up with more money before I left. That would be enough money for me and Angel to start up something together.
“That’s good to hear, me and my Pops got into it.” Angel sucked in a deep breath.
“It’s really got me feeling low. I just really need to see you and get how I feel off my chest and not over the phone.” Her voice broke.
I felt her emotions through the phone, I was an empath and hated to hear Angel sound so defeated.
“I got you, baby; I’ll be there tomorrow. We can spend an entire day together, I promise.” I smiled sadly as if she could see me through the phone.
“Okay, Tavi. I love you, see you tomorrow.”
“I love you too, babes, I’ll make it better tomorrow.”
She hung up the phone. I quickly jumped up and left out of my room to go search for Monni. He told me that I could come and go as I pleased but I figured that it would be nice to tell him in advance. Soon as I got to his bedroom door, I didn’t knock just opened it up and froze in place staring at his naked damp body with a thick black towel hanging off of his waist.
His room was as empty as the guest room that I slept in. I stepped inside as the door creaked and shut behind me. A shiver ran down my spine from the cold thick air that seemed to seep from the walls. The room looked like it had been abandoned for years. It smelled like dust mixed with whatever soap he used to bathe with. Like the rest of his house, there was no personal touches. I couldn’t wait to redecorate around this house before I left. My mission was to make his home actually look like a home on the inside.
Monni stood in the middle of his room like the main exquisite centerpiece. He looked like a fine gold god, with chocolate dripping off of him. He sat down on his bed next to a big jar of shea butter and started to rub his chest and eight pack down. His hair waved up, as water droplets decorated his forehead.
“Speak.” He broke me out of my trance.
“What did you do back at the mall?” I asked him that first when I was supposed to tell him about me leaving tomorrow to go with Angel.
“I killed Howard-the-Coward.” Monni never looked up at me.
He admitted to me what he did in a nonchalant manner, like none of it bothered him or mattered to him. He’s a stone-cold killer!
