Monster got, held Neosyne in his arms and rocked him gently as he looked down into his eyes. We all remained quiet as we watched Monster talk to the baby. Loud banging at the door interrupted our well needed silence. My stomach dropped without knowing who was at the door. It sounded like a troubled knock at the door, whoever was behind it was about to shift our mood…

Chapter13

Detavio

Monster placed Neosyne on his left shoulder then pulled his gun from the small of his back as he continued to slowly bounce the baby in his arms.

“Go answer the door.” He stood to his feet.

I felt it like they felt the troubled knock that echoed throughout the front of my house. The women that lived here didn’t have to travel through the front door. Most of them went through the east wing of the house because they didn’t have access to the front, my personal domain.

I walked through my house calmly, when I entered the foyer, I picked up my Ak-forty-seven and aimed it at the door as I snatched it open.

“You got a gun around my baby?” Natavi smacked her lips with a frown covering her face.

“His own daddy got a gun around him.” I lowered my gun and stepped to the side.

Natavi stood in place, her frown dropped as her eyes drooped.

“What’s wrong?” I asked her.

“It’s Angel…Detavio, I really need everyone to remain calm right now. She’s out in the car?—”

“What’s going on Tavi?” Monster said from behind me.

Natavi said nothing as she briskly moved past me. She fell into Monster’s arms and started to sob lowly. I assumed Monster gave the baby to Octavio to have my back in case of this being an emergency. Monster held Natavi tightly in his arms, his hand stroked her back up and down as he whispered something in her ear.

Seconds later, she calmed down then turned in his arms to face me.

“Angel has been going through somethings, and I feel bad because she’s been going through it all alone. All these months… I didn’t know…she wouldn’t tell me exactly what happened between you and her. I didn’t want to get in the way of it all either because I know my best friend. She tells things when she’s good and ready. Detavio?” she paused from talking.

Natavi moved out of Monster’s arms to stand directly in front of me. My mind was stuck on Angel. I felt conflicted because I held a lot of resentment and disdain for her. I didn’t know what could possibly fall from Natavi’s mouth to make me change my mind about how she immaturely handled things.

“Impurity…” She whispered his name like it was forbidden.

Amongst us, we didn’t speak of him. We all know what happened to Impurity we just chose not to mention his name unless it was necessary.

“The fuck did you just say?” Monster stepped to the side of Natavi.

“Baby…calm down.” She turned to Monster, but it was too late. His nostrils flared.

The wild look in Monster’s eyes told me that he was already going into the same zone that I was falling into by the mere mention of our father’s name.

“Impurity is dead,” Monster stated flatly.

“Hold on…what does he have to do with Angel not being herself?” I asked as an uneasy feeling welled up inside of me.

“He’s not dead; he’s alive, and he has been watching Angel. I think—I think he’s the reason why she broke up with you…she’s not telling me everything, she hasn’t—wait! Detavio please! She’s not herself!” Natavi called out behind me as I walked out of the house.

I slammed the door behind me then jogged down my porch steps. Natavi’s Benz truck had dark tints concealing Angel from me. I didn’t know how to feel, one thing I knew for certain was Impurity being alive had me infuriated. We couldn’t underestimate him, but what I knew to be true was that he was the king of manipulation.

I opened the passenger door and took a deep breath at the same time. Angel slowly turned her eyes toward me. Her eyes was sunken with the kind of bags that don’t just come from sleepless nights, but from fear of being haunted. Impurity was alive, I didn’t need her to confirm it at all. Her eyes told me that she saw the devil in the flesh, and it was enough to break her then turn her into a shell of herself.

“I’m sorry, for everything.” Her voice cracked.

I didn’t say a word. I dropped down in front of her, low enough for her to look into my eyes. Before I could move my mouth, Angel collapsed into me. She shook and sobbed hard, her fingers clenched my shirt. I stiffened off of instinct, she clung to me like I was her savior. It was as if she trusted me with every fiber inside of her. I wasn’t used to being looked at in that way. The world thought that I was the Devil. I thought that Angel believed it all with the way she gave me her ass to kiss.

I let the tension bleed out of me, my arms slowly wrapped around her. I could tell that Angel hadn’t took a bath, she still felt good in my arms.
