I pulled away so I could look at her face. “What?”
She looked sheepish. “I googled you, alright.”
I chuckled. “First things first, they write whatever they feel like, and it doesn’t have any connection to reality. Francia and I had a thing; we hung out for a short time, a couple of weeks, and we got our picture taken. We didn’t exactly break up because there wasn’t anything tobreakup. It was casual. She knew it. But she has a movie coming out, and she thought she could gain some publicity.”
Dee moved away and sat up. “Are you saying she just lied?”
“Yeah.”
“Then why didn’t you say something? Tell…those people that you didn’t do that.”
She looked adorably furious. I cupped her cheek. “If you brawl with a pig in the muck, you get dirty, and the pig likes it. I don’t talk to the media about my personal life. I don’t talk about friends, family…anything that’s important to me.”
She nodded.
“What?”
“I may have watched some of your interviews.”
I grinned. “Dee, were you stalking me online?”
“Hardly.” She folded her arms, and her beautiful breasts pushed out.
I touched a nipple with a finger and then the other. “You’re so beautiful.”
“So…you didn’t cheat?”
“I’ve been in two relationships my whole life,” I told her, my eyes on hers. “I never cheated on Dani.”
“And the other?”
“Is with you, and I haven’t cheated on you and would never do that. It’s wrong. It’s disrespectful. And it’s not who I am.”
She cleared her throat, and then, realizing she was naked, she pulled the comforter over her breasts and held it there. “We’re in a relationship?”
“Yes, Dee, we are.”
If she made a flippant remark, she was likely going to hurt me, so I braced myself. Knowing Dee, I knew she’d want to protect herself, and she did that by being prickly.
She swallowed. “So…you’re my lad now, is it?”
I leaned back against the headboard, enjoying the way her cheeks turned just the faintest shade of pink. “Well, if that’s what you’re callin’ me, I’m not gonna argue, Wild Cat. But if you’ve got another term in mind, I’m all ears. Like stud?”
“Christ!” she muttered.
“I like being your lad. I mean, someone’s gotta do the job, don’t they? Might as well be me.”
Her eyes narrowed, but I could see the corner of her mouth twitching, fighting a smile. “You think you’re up for it, do ya?”
I dropped my voice. “Oh, darlin’, I’m not just up for it—I’m overqualified.”
She snorted, rolling her eyes, but I caught the blush creeping up her neck. “You’re a cocky fecker, Jax Caldwell, you know that?”
I grinned wider. “Aye, but I’myourcocky fecker now, aren’t I?”
“So, you are.”
I pulled her back into my arms, and she kissed my chest. Her body was snug against mine, comfortable and comforting.
