“Boys! Let’s focus back on the task.” Axel playfully salutes at me with a big grin, making me laugh. “Even though I cashed in one of my three ‘no questions asked’ favors for help, it seems like the DNA was just bullshit. They must have someone within the Society trying to hide the real evidence.”
“Can I see the handkerchief?” Killian asks.
“Yeah, it’s in my bag. I wanted to show you when I came back. One sec.” I quickly rummage through the bag that’s dangling on my chair.
“Here,” I say, handing them a hazard bag.
Killian carefully inspects it from the outside. “Can I open it?”
“Yes, it’s okay.”
He opens the bag and unfolds the handkerchief, making the M visible in the corner. Killian’s eyes grow in shock like he’s seen a ghost. He quickly looks to Axel, who mirrors his emotion.
“What?” I yell. “Tell me!”
“I didn’t kill your mother, Nai,” Killian says.
“I know that already. Why are you looking so pale?” I ask, not sure if I’m ready to hear the why.
“Because I know exactly who did.”
I brace myself on the armrests on each side of the chair, digging my fingers in. “Who?”
“I’ve seen a handkerchief exactly like this one before. The letter on it isn’t an M, it’s a W. It belonged to Andres Morel, otherwise known as the Wildcat. My uncle.”
My mouth drops open as anger flows within. “Why-why would he? Why did the Society lie?”
“More importantly, why did they point their fingers at you, Killian?” Axel questions.
“I don’t know, but I sure as hell am gonna find out.”
Chapter 21
Killian
“Yourroomisjustlike I hoped,” Naomi says as she climbs into my bed wearing one of the nighties I bought her. She looks delectable in the blood-red, the silk cascading down her curves. “You’re staring again.”
“You should get used to it. Especially dressed like that,” I say, kissing her shoulder.
“I have a suggestion.” She bites her lip.
My eyes draw to the movement, and I immediately go to cup her chin. Her lips feel so soft and plump as I graze my thumb over them. “I’m listening,” I say. Even though all the blood is rushing to the wrong head right now.
“Today has beenheavy.”
Looking up at her, I say, “That’s the understatement of the century.”
“I would like to shut everything outside of that door,” she says, pointing to the door to exit my bedroom. “And only focus on what’s in here.”
“I’m already liking where this is going,” I say with a mischievous grin. “What were you wanting me to focus on?” I pull her by the hand still cupped around her face. “I have a few ideas.”
“Show me?” she moans out.
I inhale the amazing smell of cinnamon apples. “Happily,” I whisper before laying a kiss on the corner of her lips, narrowly avoiding her mouth. “This seems like a good spot.” I continue to plant kisses until I’m near her ear. “Or maybe here?” I pull her lobe between my teeth and gently tug, eliciting a moan out of her. “She likes a little pain with her pleasure, I see.”
“You’d know if you stalked me properly,” she teases.
“I learned a lot of things about what you like.”
