She pushes the door open and gestures for me to come in. I walk inside and take in the room again. I can see her small bright orange kitchen to my right and a hallway to my left with three doors.
“But what are you doinghere, Grady?“ She slowly closes the distance between us, one hand slides to my chest and the other plays with my belt loop, not seeming to care that I’m dripping water all over her tile flooring.
The simple touch has my tongue dry and my chest tight. “Thunderstorm,” I mumble, not taking my eyes off her lips.
Fuck, I want to kiss her.
She chuckles, “Didn’t realize you were still a big weenie.” Her voice is teasing but her hands are possessive.
Saying the first excuse that comes to mind, “I wanted to make sure you had a generator… in case the power goes out…” If she doesn’t have one and the power goes out, there isn’t a damn thing I could do.
She gives me a knowing smile, “I do have one. Hudson installed it for us when we first moved in. We’ve never needed it before.” We don’t get a lot of thunder or lightning storms out here.
“Oh… okay…” I don’t know why I thought showing up to her house was a good idea. I just wanted to see her and now that I have, maybe there’s no reason to stay. “I can go then. I don’t wan–”
She fists my soaked shirt. “Don’t you dare, Grady Miller. What ifyourelectricity goes out? I know you’re scared of the dark.”
That makes my head tip back as I laugh. “I am not.” I step into her space. “Nor have I ever been,” I remark, one of my arms wrapping around her waist, “afraid of the dark, you little troll.” My other hand slides to her chin and I angle her face up to mine. Her smile is so bright it’s almost blinding, but I couldn’t look away if my life depended on it.
“Are you going to kiss me?”
I huff out a laugh. “Impatient girl.”
A small smile plays on my lips as I lean toward her. I gently brush my lips against hers for half a second. Her eyes are closed, mouth barely open, waiting for me. I lay a soft kiss on the tip of her nose before taking more. My fingers tighten around her jaw and her hum of approval only urges me on further. She opens for me, and I don’t waste a second before slipping my tongue in, getting tangled with hers.
For such a simple kiss, my cock is already rising to attention.
From the moans slipping out of her, I wonder if she’s as ready for more as I am.
I don’t know how long it takes me to realize that the house is darker, and the soft melody of Taylor Swift stopped.
I pull away and rub my thumb along her swollen lips.
“Huh, I guess you need that generator now,” I tease.
Vivi’s eyes fly open as she takes in the dark, quiet room.
“Ummm,” she says in a quiet, almost embarrassed voice, “I actually don’t know how to use it.”
I stare at her in disbelief, “You were so cool and confident when I got here.”
Her arms drop to my waist and pull me closer to her. She buries her face in my wet chest, and she’s so goddamn perfect I can’t help myself. I plant another kiss on her temple. “I just didn’t want you to know how happy I was that you were standing at my door. It reminded me of summer days… remember when you would pack picnics and surprise me?”
The memory makes me smile. “Those were my favorite days.”
I honestly didn’t have any coherent thoughts when I decided to drive to Vivi’s. Actually, it was all very caveman of me.
Vivi.
Must see Vivi.
Go to Vivi.
Next thing I knew, I was parking my Jeep in the driveway and running through the rain to get to her.
But the fact that it means this much to her? That just needing to see her made her remember those perfect, warm summer days?
That makes me feel good. Better than good. I’m on top of the world right now.
