Axel stepped closer and lost his smile. The man was hot in that edgy biker kind of way. “Do youwantto be engaged to Drakos Creed?” he asked softly.
Xander sighed and crossed his arms, probably worried about my answer. But I ignored him and gazed up at Axel. “Yes. I came to a startling realization not long ago that I do want to marry him, and I love the cynical, possessive smartass. I might even have a few little suit-wearing miniatures of him someday.”
His lip quirked and he raised an eyebrow. “Drakos is a lucky bastard.”
“I’m flattered you think so, and good luck. Will you let us know what happens?”
Axel nodded and glanced back at the clubhouse. “We can’t pick our family, can we?”
I thought about my father. “No, we can’t.” He turned and strode back inside.
Diego watched him go. “Axel is this club’s best hope.”
I looked up at the rusted sign. “Agreed. I did what I could, but if they keep targeting us, we’ll have to keep reciprocating.”
Xander’s lips tipped up into a rare smile. “Little suit-wearing miniatures? I’d like to see that someday.”
Chapter 33
Drakos
Misty looked up when I walked by her desk that morning. “Oh, my God! How’s Sylvie doing? We heard about that biker guy trying to kidnap her. I just saw her but didn’t get to ask.” Misty wore a short, sparkly purple dress that matched the highlights in her hair and screamed many things, but “preeminent law firm” was unfortunately not among them.
I slowed to a stop and tilted my head. “You just saw Sylvie? Where?”
“Here. She was with Milo parked out on the curb. They were picking up Xander when I walked in.”
I stared down at her. “You’re saying earlier this morning Xander walked out, got into Milo’s vehicle, and Sylvie was inside?”
Misty blinked up at me and put her hand under her chin. Her long, sharp purple nails appeared to have faux diamonds on them. “Yeah. Sasha says Sylvie’s really good on the pole now—likefreakishlygood. The security staff and custodians at Euphoria all agree. You should go watch her practice.” She gave me a cheeky grin. I honestly couldn’t tell if she was trying to get under my skin, or was really that clueless.
“Misty, howexactlywould the staff at Euphoria know what Sylvie looks like when she’s… on the pole?”
She grinned. “They like to watch her lessons. A few even come in early on Wednesdays so they don’t miss it.” She glanced over her shoulder and leaned in, lowering her voice. “Luna isn’t a great dancer, but they both have rockin’ bodies. Sylvie’s a natural, though. She could makesomuch money, and have a sick following on a Fans Only account if she wanted to.”
I nodded absently and pulled out my phone as I strode into my office. My life suddenly felt out of control. What the hell was Sylvie up to now? First, I texted Milo.
Drakos: Where the fuck is Sylvie, and why is Xander with her?
Milo: You don’t pay me enough to answer that
I stared down at my phone, wondering what the hell he was talking about.
Drakos: We pay you over three times what you made at the FBI
Milo: Exactly. Not enough
I texted Sylvie next.
Drakos: What are you up to, Lollipop?
Sylvie: Good morning, Satan
Drakos: Why doesn’t Milo want to tell me where you’re at?
She didn’t answer for several minutes, and when her next text came through, I stared down at my phone, trying to figure out what she meant.
Sylvie: I’m multitasking
