Maui is magical. We have been enjoying the sun, the sea, and our bed.
Today we are visiting an elderly fortune teller.
I’m skeptical, but Meredith is excited. And I’ll do anything for this woman.
She sits down in front of the older woman’s chair and holds out her hands.
“You have a bright future.”
I roll my eyes.
What else would she say? We are paying her, and she wants happy costumers, willing to return, right?
If you see death and gore in their future, it’s not like they’ll want to visit again.
“Your man, he doesn’t believe me. Do you believe, lady?”
“I believe.”
She nods and looks down at Meredith’s hands, “You are this man’s life. He’ll never let you go again.”
Well, she’s right about that. I’ll be nothing without her in my life.
I watch both women as the fortune teller keeps up the predictions.
“You will have a child.”
Well, unless she were blind, it is hard to miss the six-month baby bump Meredith is rocking these days. Can’t say I’m exactly impressed.
“I see flowers, pink. The girl’s name has to do with that.”
That one does surprise me. We’ve been going through a lot of flower names, lately.
“Yes,” Meredith breathes. “Can you do his next?”
She smiles up at me as I shake my head.
“I don’t have to. I saw him in yours, lady. He’s your man. In this life and the next.”
ChapterThirty-Seven
LOGAN
Three monthslater
“They’re a minute apart, Logan, step on it!” Meredith screams.
I slide the car on ice into the emergency room, nearly hitting the curb.
I yell for help and someone in scrubs comes running.
The next thing I know, I’m holding onto Meredith’s hand and she’s screaming bloody murder and I’m starting to be afraid.
Dr. Klein comes in and quickly checks her cervix and does some measurements before looking at her seriously.
“I know that you wanted a natural birth, Meredith, but that’s not going to happen. The baby’s head and shoulders are too big.”
Meredith pants out a sob. “I don’t care, just get it out of me!”
