“Of course, she will. I saw the way you two were sucking each other’s faces.” He grimaces. “It’s love, or whatever.”

I smile. “You really think so?”

“Seems like you need a conversation with my sister more than you need one with me.”

I look at him. “Does that mean you forgive me?”

Grayson sighs heavily. “Yes, I forgive you. It’d be stupid not to. Your biggest crime is falling in love. I know what that’s like.”

I can’t stop myself from going to him and pulling him into a hug, and he claps me on the back.

I wince, and he laughs.

“Shit. Did I break a rib?”

“Just bruised.”

I hope.

Heated voices come from the kitchen, and I look at Grayson.

“You ready for this?”

“As ready as I’ll ever be.”

Grayson nods and walks into the dining room with his parents and sister, and I follow like I’m following him to hell itself.

ChapterThirty-Three

MEREDITH

My father goesghost white before his face turns tomato red. “You’rewhat?”

Grayson and Logan walk into the room.

I hold onto my belly protectively.

“You’re going to be a grandfather.”

“You’re not even married! Who—” He looks over at Logan, and Logan gives him a sheepish smile. “Logan?”

Dad braces himself on the chair, his knuckles whitening, and Logan goes pale.

“Dad—” Grayson starts, but it’s not Dad who freaks out–it's Mother.

She gasps, holding onto her chest and nearly fainting.

Logan snaps into action, catching her before she hits the ground and lowering her into a chair, fanning her with his handkerchief.

I’m trying not to laugh. It’s like a scene straight out of the nineteenth century, my mother retiring to a fainting couch after upsetting news. She’s being ridiculous.

Why should it matter?—

My mother sighs. “Oh, thankGod. I was so afraid it’d be somenobody.”

Logan frowns at her. “What?”

She looks up at him, patting his hand. “I was so scared she had met some random idiot who wouldn’t know her. You’ve always known her, Logan.”
