“Now, Henry, you just follow my lead, okay?”

“What is this dance, and why am I doing it?” JD’s brother looked nervous now, and who could blame him?

“It’s the grapevine twist. We dance it to honor someone who loved square dancing and died young.”

“You’re not serious?” Henry said, watching the others start moving around him.

“Totally. There are speakers all around town. If you don’t dance, you go to jail.”

He shot her a look.

“For real.”

“Just wow,” he said, looking dazed.

“Isn’t it great?” Lil said with a giggle. She held Dan’s hand—a fact her brother wasn’t unhappy about.

Sawyer was the lead for their group and held Birdie’s hand.

“Now, Henry, you just follow what the person in front of you does, and I’ll steer you from behind. We’re going to turn in a circle now.”

He was light on his feet like his brother, who still had Ruby in his arms and presented a picture that did not make Zoe’s ovaries sigh.

“My brother…” Henry’s words fell away as he tripped.

Red Heckler was in front and steadied him.

“Thank you.”

“Your brother is a different man to the one who left, I’m guessing?” Zoe asked.

“Very. I didn’t know he had tattoos.”

“He’s well-respected by the people in this town, Henry,” Zoe said. JD may annoy her, but she would be honest about this because it was the truth. “I’m guessing you didn’t part ways amicably?” she added, shooting JD a look. He was frowning at her. She smiled. The frown darkened. Ruby was now sleeping over his shoulder while he patted her back.

“I’ve never seen him holding a child before,” Henry said.

“He’s a good man, and we love him here in Lyntacky.” She didn’t love him, Zoe clarified silently, but he was part of this town and well respected.

“I thought he’d come home.” Henry turned, and she thought he looked like a lost little boy at that moment. Clearly his brother’s departure from his life had devastated him.

“And he never has?”

Henry shook his head.

“Ours is a long and confusing story, which I don’t feel comfortable discussing with someone I barely know.”

“Fair enough,” Zoe said.

“Eyes up there, Henry,” Brody said. “You’ll end up on your ass with a tear in your Dormeuil Vanquish II suit pants.”

JD, who clearly heard, snorted. “They research high-end brands to insult me with.”

Henry nodded, still looking a bit lost and confused. She wanted to pump him for more information but didn’t. This, whatever it was, was between him and JD.

“Hi, I’m Sydney Jane.” She batted her long fake eyelashes at Henry as she passed him, and his eyes went to her boobs, which were spectacular and especially on display as they were today.

“Back off, SJ. He only just arrived,” Zoe said.
