He nearly choked on his spit.

“Very amusing. But seriously?”

“We did it in the front and back seat,” Zoe added.

JD had to turn and look at her then. She was smirking at her brother.

“Even with every muscle in my body hurting, the sex was great.”

“I call BS. You can’t stand the sight of each other, so as far as lies go, it’s a bad one,” Sawyer said. “Plus, no way would you do that. We have the pact.”

“They’d make a great couple, though,” Birdie said.

“What?” Sawyer looked down at his girl. “They hate each other…. Okay, maybe not hate, but there is a healthy dose of animosity. He’s also my best friend.”

“Aw, shucks,” JD got out.

“You know what they say, Sawyer. Love is the closest emotion to hate, and that pact is silly now you’re all adults,” Birdie said.

“Who says that? I’ve heard no one say that.” He looked at JD, who shook his head because he could form no words. “And it’s not silly,” Sawyer then muttered.

“Anyway, I’m going to head home soon. My body is stiffening up,” Zoe said. “And I just spent the last twenty minutes in the bathroom. I don’t think the pizza is?—”

“Jesus, all right!” Her brother cut her off. “Go already.”

Zoe laughed and walked away.

“That girl.” He shook his head.

Birdie was staring at JD hard, and as he did not understand the workings of her mind or, in fact, any woman’s, he ignored it.

“Shit. Henry is now dancing with Sydney Jane,” Sawyer said. “She’ll eat him alive.”

JD looked to the dance floor and saw his brother clasped in the man-eater’s arms.

“Make sure he gets a good prenup,” Sawyer added. “Anyway, isn’t he like this big-city suit? I’m sure he’s the shark in that pairing.”

“My brother is not a shark,” JD said with more bite than was required.

The couple before him smiled.

“What?”

“You’re always getting at me about my overprotective instincts where my siblings are concerned. Nice to see you have them too.” Sawyer then took his girl’s hand and walked away.

He was just about to intercept his brother and remove him from the she-devil’s clutches when the roar of motorcycles stopped him. JD was moving with the others out the door seconds later.

“Fucking Bandits,” Dan Duke growled when he joined him outside. “Why are they here?”

The motorcycles were now lined up in front of Circle Left. There were close to twenty was JD’s guess.

“Two reasons why they’re here come to mind,” Sawyer said. “One is me, because of that fight I had with Grill and broke his nose a while back and he’s still looking for revenge. The second is that shit in the Rollaway the other night.”

“Seems an odd place to even scores with so many Lyntacks here, bud,” JD said, moving to where Sawyer stood with his brothers.

“Real odd,” Brody said. “But if it has to be here, we’ll deal with it.”

“If he comes at me, I’m not backing away,” Sawyer said, jabbing a finger in a large biker’s direction.
