“Yes, but not if it means you two can’t,” I said quickly. “He needs you both.”

“He needs you more, but they might let all three of us. I’m not sure. Probably depends who’s on guard. Do you feel anything weird? Like specifically when you’re not with him?”

You mean like the fucking anvil sitting on my ribs right now?“I’m tired, Ren,” I deflected, knowing he probably heard that thought, anyway. “You should go see Kell. I’ll be fine here.”

I stood to make my way to Alaris’ bed, then flopped down and wrapped myself in his blanket without waiting to see if Renzo stayed or went.

Maybe things would make sense tomorrow.

Chapter Twenty-Four:

“Is it time?” I asked, buttoning my jeans and slipping my boots on. “Did you find out who the guards are?”

“Yeah, they’re Ciro’s buddies, so they’re only letting you in,” Renzo said, then Kell cut in.

“We’ll be right outside though and he’ll be able to hear us if he wants to talk to us. He just needs to see you since he can’t reach out to you right now.”

“You mean that’s what we think,” Ren argued. “Asshole cut us off yesterday, and I’m pretty sure he didn’t sleep either because we would have been able to slip in there and talk to him.”

I stood a little straighter. “I know a thing or two about trying to sleep in those cells. I’ll see what I can do.”

“Then let’s go.” Kell took my arm and teleported us down there just outside the door, and Renzo met us a moment later with a pitcher of water and a couple of glasses.

The guards glared at me as I took them and stepped forward with my head high. “You have an hour,” one growled. “No touching.”

I huffed. “He might be forbidden from killing Heir Ciro when this is over, but somehow I doubt Ciro lumped you two in with that deal. I’d be careful if I were you.”

“That a threat, little bloodwhore?”

“Hey!” Alaris’ voice boomed. “It wasn’t a threat, Miko. It was a promise. Treat my girl right and you might keep your head.”

I smirked, unable to help it. “I’m not a bloodwhore, either, but nice try. Now move.”

They stepped aside looking exactly as apprehensive as I’d hoped they would, and I rushed into the room before they could stop me.

Alaris was sitting on the bare stone floor in the sweats he’d been wearing while we cuddled. He already looked starved, and with my knowledge of his appetite, I knew this was only the beginning. “Hi, Sweets. Miss me?”
