“Then prove to me that you do,” she said, closing the distance between us and holding out her wrist. “You haven’t had enough.”

My fangs distended whether I wanted them to or not, eyes fixated on that gorgeous, scarred wrist. “Adalind.”

“I can’t be alone with you if you can’t prove to me you can stop,” she said quietly. “So prove it. Take only what you need and then stop, and Kell and Renzo will leave.”

I wanted them gone, wanted it to be just her and I, and if this was how I would get it, I’d have to find the strength. I took her slender hand into mine then kissed up her palm toward her wrist and sank my teeth in. She was scared, I could taste it in her blood, but the sweet undertone she naturally had was there and I knew regardless of what happened... she still trusted me.

No one said a word but her as I took what I needed. I wasn’t sure anyone was even breathing, but slowly, that tangy undertone vanished and she moaned my name softly.

There’s my girl. My girl, the one that I would burn the world for.

I pulled back slowly and lapped up the blood that leaked around my fangs, then kissed her skin again as I met her eyes. I was in control, I’d never hurt her again... even if I had to kill myself to stop it.

“You can go,” she called behind her. “We’ll be fine.”

I could feel them lingering still and gave them a nod, communicating to them that I was in control and then a second later, we were alone. “Shall we start over, Miss Silk?” I held out my hand the way humans did to greet each other. “I’m Alaris. It’s nice to meet you.”

Chapter Twenty-Eight:

Alittle apprehensive, I shook Alaris’ outstretched hand. “Adalind Silk. It’s nice to meet you... I hope.”

He smiled softly. “Me too. I get the vibe you’re a little dangerous, am I wrong?”

My stomach flipped, and I noticed neither of us were letting go of that handshake. “I can be, but only when provoked. Are you?”

“In bed,” he teased, glancing down at our hands as his grin grew. “Will you go on a date with me, Miss Silk?”

It should’ve been illegal what that combination did to me. “A what? I didn’t know vampires went on dates.”

“Vampires go on dates. The handsome ones, at least.” He finally let go of my hand and tossed his head toward the bathroom. “I’ll go take a shower since I’m in last week’s sweats and then we’ll cross our fingers that they brought me some clothes.”

“Um...” I blushed, stepping in and running my fingers down his chest. “I might’ve told them we weren’t going to need clothes.”

The look in his eyes changed instantly. The gentleman inside of him took a back seat to who Alaris was, to what he craved. “See... dangerous.” He stepped in closer and touched my chin. “Shower with me. You can teach me how to turn it on.”

“Pretty sure it’s already turned all the way on,” I mumbled, letting that insane feeling wash over me until my thighs were slick and my breaths were shallow. “Take us up there.”
