I quickly wrapped my arms around his neck and held him to me, my heart racing at the near fall.

The bastard’s chest shook as he laughed at me.

My grip around his neck tightened, trying hard not to give in to the urge to slap the smirk off his stupid face. Or choke him.

My armswereconveniently around his neck.

Something told me he wouldn’t be so receptive to that, and I didn’t know what the repercussions would be if I pissed off the beast.

He shifted me on his lap and let me sit sideways, my legs falling to one side of him over the edge of the bed, almost in line with his legs. Then he carefully reached over for the tray and set it on the bed beside us.

I watched him curiously.

What was happening?

He picked up the spoon, scooped some tomato soup, tested it against his lips, and brought it to mine.

I shook my head, refusing to eat.

He didn’t say anything.

Just looked at me.

“You can be as stubborn as you feel like, wildcat, but we’re not leaving this position until all the food on this tray is gone. You really think you can out-stubborn me?”

Yes. Yes, I did think that.

But the hardness in his eyes told me not to test him, and I didn’t want to spend the night on his lap.

Did I?

I shook away the stupid thought and opened my mouth slowly. He fed me some tomato soup. I barely tasted it.

Satisfaction entered his eyes, and he scooped up some more.

“I can feed myself,” I croaked, trying to grab the spoon from him.

He held it away from me.

“And now you don’t have to.”

I frowned.

“What’s wrong with you?” I asked before I could think better of it.

Dominic was quiet for a moment. Then he let out a booming laugh, and I jumped, not expecting that reaction.

“Lots of things,” he answered, taking advantage of my slightly gaping mouth and feeding me another spoonful.

I quickly swallowed, looking over at him warily.

We didn’t speak for the rest of the meal.

Dominic didn’t eat.

He also didn’t look away from me.

There was something unnerving about having his blue eyes on me the whole time while I did something as vital as eating. While he did something as nurturing as feeding me.
