“I’ll cook more food for you,” I said. “I like cooking.”
“Yeah?” he asked.
I nodded shyly.
“You’ll cook more for me?”
Again, I nodded. I didn’t think there had ever been anyone who’d taken this much interest in me.
“I’ll hold you to that, pretty girl.”

KAI
She spent the night again.
This was the second night in a row she invaded my space and my bed.
I waited for the feeling of unease at the sight of her there.
Only a small tinge hit my heart, and there was a brief panic, not because she was here, but because I wasn’t freaking out the way I should be.
This was an unfamiliar experience, and I wasn’t sure I fucking liked it one bit, but the alternative was to bring her back to Blue, and somehow, the thought of that made me feel fucking worse.
She was asleep soundly beside me.
The morning sun hit the window. No noise penetrated through.
It was just me and her in this small safe bubble for us, and I almost didn’t want time to pass.
But real life didn’t stop just because I wanted it to.
It was Monday, so I was sure she needed to go to work, and I needed to look over the numbers for the accounts again before we did the drop-off in San Francisco.
I might not see her again tonight.
My heart rebelled at the thought.
Fuck.
I tried to ignore it and gently shook her awake.
“Pretty girl. Wake up for me.”
She groaned and snuggled closer to the pillow. “Just five more minutes.”
My lips twitched. How could anyone possibly be this adorable?
“Come on, show me those warm brown eyes.”
She shook her head.
“Pretty girl.”
“Kai,” she said, and there was a whine in her voice that was hard to miss.
“You don’t want to be late for work, do you?”
