It would be annoying if he weren’t so overly sweet…

Just kidding; it was fucking annoying as hell, and he was lucky I didn’t act on my impulse to hit him over the head with the frying pan last night.

Not hard enough to kill him, of course. Just enough to knock him out so I could masturbate.

I just… I really missed sex. I missed him inside me, and I would have wanted to stay home tonight, but we were going back to the bar. His dad would be there, along with Emmy—Dominic’s wife—and Roman, Ryleigh, and Micah.

I wasn’t sure if Ryleigh still remembered me or not.

We had grown up together—kind of—but there was a small age gap between us, so we never exactly hung out. We probably interacted a handful of times in the course of our lives. And I moved away around the same time Ryleigh was abducted and found at the bottom of the cliff.

Few people knew about that, but my family did, especially my mom. I was surprised she hadn’t spread the news around town when she heard it, but for the first time, she was tight-lipped. But she told me about it during the few phone calls between us while I was living in Massachusetts.

Emmy was different.

She was a stranger to me.

I didn’t do well with strangers.

I would often come across as too eager or too cold.

Neither was I good at making friends. It was a miracle I was able to make friends with Blue before my weirdness showed up and scared him off.

I would also be able to see Blue tonight.

We had texted a few times, but there wasn’t much time to hang out with everything happening with me, my family, and him and the club.

Kai said Mom and Kenton had gone AWOL, and they didn’t know where to find them.

I hoped they’d left California. Or, better yet, the country.

But I knew my mom didn’t have the resources to leave, and I doubted Uncle Frank was helping them now.

I didn’t know what to think about that, but I was determined not to let them ruin my life.

We pulled up outside the bar in Kai’s black car.

I looked down at my lap nervously.

Blue had been with me the last time I was here, and I hadn’t expected to interact with anyone but him.

I was comfortable with Blue.

But with other people…

What if I embarrassed Kai?

Or, worse, say something to offend Dominic, and he ended up not liking me?

“Don’t be nervous,” Kai said, like it was easy.

I peeked sideways at him but didn’t say anything.

He grabbed my hands from my lap. His thumb pressed down in the middle of my palm. I focused on the slight pressure there.

“I’ll be by your side the whole night.”

“You promise?”
