I nodded, turning to the stunning woman. “We’ve met. I don’t know if you remember me—”
“Of course I remember you. You were always so nice to me whenever we were forced to go to those boring parties our parents took us to,” Ryleigh said.
Roman wrapped his hand around the back of her chair, pulling her close, though he didn’t say anything. It was a little awkward because the men’s attention was on us.
I nodded.
“It’s nice to see you again, Gemma,” Ryleigh said.
The waitress came back with our drinks, putting the beers down on the table. I didn’t think anyone ordered anything but beer, and I had followed along. I didn’t drink much, so I didn’t care what I ordered.
She slammed the bottle down in front of me hard enough that I jumped on Kai’s lap. Then her hand knocked over the bottle, and it spilled toward me.
Kai was quick but not quick enough to pull us away.
Some of the liquid dripped on my black leggings, seeping through to my skin.
I wrinkled my nose at the smell.
“Oh, my God. I am so sorry,” the waitress said.
It might have been my imagination, but the waitress didn’t sound sorry.
I stood, and Ryleigh handed me some napkins.
Kai stood too, and while he tried to help me clean up, he glared at the waitress as if he thought she had done this on purpose. I was embarrassed that we had the attention of the whole bar now.
“I’m gonna go to the bathroom and get this cleaned up,” I said to Kai, taking the napkins from his hand.
He frowned. “I’ll go with you.”
I shook my head, about to protest, when Emmy spoke up. “We’ll help, Kai.”
Ryleigh nodded in agreement, and Kai looked like he was about to protest but changed his mind at the last moment.
He kissed my cheek softly. “Hurry back to me.”
“Okay,” I said, smiling a little at him.
Emmy led me to the bathroom, and Ryleigh followed behind us.
We opened the door to a thankfully empty bathroom, and Emmy turned to me, anger in her eyes.
“That bitch. She totally did that on purpose!”
I looked at Ryleigh, who shrugged. I had thought the waitress’s attitude was strange. Had she really done that on purpose?
“Are you sure?” I asked, walking over to the sink and turning on the tap. I doubted I could clean the smell off completely.
“I have something you can borrow,” Ryleigh said, digging around in her huge purse. I hadn’t realized she’d carried it in with her. “Aha!”
She pulled out a pair of black leggings. We were about the same size, though I might be a little bigger than she was. But this was better than wearing beer-covered pants for the entire night.
“Oh, you are a lifesaver,” I told Ryleigh, grabbing the leggings, going into a stall and quickly changing into them.
“Why do you think she did that on purpose?” Ryleigh asked Emmy.
“Oh, please. She’s been eyeing Kai since the moment he stepped inside the bar. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had a thing—uh, I mean…”
