Dad grabbed my shoulders and shook me.

“Kai?”

“Someone took Gemma.”

* * *

I tappedmy fingers on the table while I waited for the computer to load.

Hacking into the security system of the restaurant Blue and Gemma went to wasn’t hard, but it had taken a little longer than it should have.

Why the fuck would a restaurant need that much security, I didn’t fucking know, but it was taking everything in me not to go over there and shoot the owner.

“We’re gonna find her,” Dad said beside me. Roman and Micah were here, and they had taken a seat on the couch in the office.

People all over the city were getting ready for the busy night ahead.

Going along with their lives, as mine was steeped in turmoil and worry and fucking regret.

Why the fuck did I let her out of my fucking sight?

I should have done what I’d said and stuck her close to my side. She needed to prepare herself because the moment I got her back, privacy would be a thing of the past for her.

I would own every minute of her fucking day.

The office door opened, and Blue walked in, his eyes tight with worry and regret.

Regret wasn’t going to get Gemma back.

I fucking lost it.

With a roar, I charged at him, punching him in the face and knocking him off his feet.

He stood up but remained where he was, not fighting back.

It did nothing to calm me down.

I charged at him again, but Micah got between us, holding me back.

“Calm down,” he said. “Being like this ain’t gonna get the girl back.”

I tried to shove him off, but he tightened his grip. Dad came up behind me.

“Kai.”

I shook my head. I wanted to fucking break down. I wanted to burn down this entire bar.

Fuck, but what if I was too late? What if they took her away from me for good?

What if they hurt her, and I wasn’t there to protect her?

I failed her.

I turned to Dad.

He looked at me with identical blue eyes.

I had nearly lost him before, and I had thought the pain was bad.
