That was Micah Stone.

Also known as the club’s psychopath.

There was a rumor that he’d disbanded a rival club by himself a couple of years ago, and by the time law enforcement showed up at the scene of the crime, the room was filled with blood.

Blood that drenched the floor and painted the walls, while in the corner was a pile of bodies—ten of the highest-ranking men of the Devil Sinners.

No one was certain what that club had done to piss him off so badly, but he had been meticulous enough that the crime couldn’t be pinned to him. But everyone suspected he did it.

Or it could just be a rumor.

It had to be nothing but a rumor.

No one was that violent, that crazy… right?

Breathe in, breathe out.

The VP wasn’t that great either.

There were rumors about him killing a cop. It was Ryleigh’s late father, Judge Bennett Hudson, who had presided over the case, but Roman was a free man. If he was guilty of killing that cop, the case hadn’t held up.

“Prez. Gemma’s not a part of the club life. This is all new to her,” Blue said, and I finally caught some hint of nervousness in his voice. I stiffened.

Dominic turned to Blue, but he didn’t say anything. Blue didn’t move away from me. If anything, I thought he was moments from carrying me out of there.

“Don’t worry too much about this, Blue. Gemma will be well protected. You have my word.”

What did that mean? Why would I need to be protected by the president of the King’s Men?

“And you can meet my boy, Kai,” Dominic said, a twist of humor on his lips.

“They’ve already met,” Blue said tightly.

“Is that so?” Dominic asked.

I licked my suddenly parched lips, not knowing what to say to that. Could he see my crush on Kai? I tried not to like him.

I had what my doctors referred to as an obsessive personality. I didn’t have a singular obsession that I focused on twenty-four / seven. Instead, I usually went through a period of obsession that could last anywhere between a week to a year, depending on how close that certain obsession was.

My crush on Kai was almost one of those things, but we didn’t run in the same circles. I saw him for the first time on the camera feed two years ago when he was trying to sneak into Uncle William’s office downtown. I’d rarely encountered him since.

I worried I might become obsessed with him now.

I blinked.

“Come on,” Dominic said. Then he turned and went back to his seat, not turning back to see if we followed.

I had a feeling Dominic was the kind of man who was used to getting what he wanted.

I looked to Blue for direction.

“It’s all right,” he said. “Just stay close to my side and try not to draw attention to yourself.”

I nodded.

Right. Everything would be okay as long as Blue was nearby.

Blue helped me slide off the seat, and I held onto him when I felt my legs wobble.
