I might have imagined it, but I swore his gaze moved to Kai.

I ignored that. “I just want to know how. I’m tired of being alone.”

And that was true. If I didn’t have Blue, I would be completely isolated from anything and anyone.

I just… I didn’t know why it was so difficult for me to connect to anyone.

On a friendship level, and certainly on a romantic level.

How could I expect to seduce someone as experienced as Kai?

“Baby girl, you’re not alone. You have me.”

But would it be enough? Or would Blue come to resent me in another two decades because he wasn’t able to form any lasting relationship with how dependent I was on him?

“Blue.”

He let out a small sigh. “I just don’t want to see you get hurt or taken advantage of.”

“That wouldn’t happen,” I said.

He eyed me skeptically.

“I have you.”

His shoulders relaxed. “That’s right. You do have me.”

“So, will you teach me?”

He frowned. “It’s not really something I can teach you. And if a man really likes you, he will put in the effort without you trying to seduce him.”

I deflated a little.

If Blue couldn’t teach me, then I was hopeless.

I felt Blue’s eyes on me before he took in a deep breath and let it out slowly.

“Just take an interest in him.”

I perked up, smiling a little.

He tugged my hair playfully. “Guys like it when you take an interest in them. Learn what they like. Do something nice. And if the guy likes you, then he’ll take it upon himself to show you. You don’t have to ask for anyone’s time or attention. They will gladly give it to you if they’re interested. And if they’re not, that’s okay too. It’ll probably suck for a while, but you’ll always have me, okay?”

My smile widened, and I nodded. “I know. I’ll always have you. And you’ll always have me.”

And that was the way it had been since Blue and his family moved in next door to us.

Someone called Blue from across the bar. He turned and nodded to the man.

“It’s okay if you want to catch up with some of your friends,” I said. “I’m fine here.”

“Don’t be silly. I came here with you.”

I shook my head. “You really think someone would approach me here?”

This table was like a forbidden fortress no one wanted to approach. I had a feeling this was Dominic’s section, and Dominic had told us to stay here and drink before he left. As if he thought this area would protect me from unwanted attention.

And I believed him.
