I had thought he left.
But Kai was still here, and he was staring at me in that intense way of his that made me want to hide away and move closer to him at the same time.
He wasn’t that far away from me. He stood near the hallway where I was standing, and even through the noise, I was hyper-focused on him.
He licked his lips, and I honed my gaze on that.
I wondered what it would be like to kiss him.
I had only kissed one boy in my life, and it was bad.
The boy shoved his tongue into my mouth, and that was that.
I hadn’t known what I was doing, and it was obvious that the boy didn’t either. It was the first and only time I had tried online dating, and I decided after that make-out session that I would be done with dating for a while.
I wasn’t good at it, and I was just tired.
But Kai…
I wanted to try it with him.
I bet he would know what to do. How to kiss. I bet he would know how to hold me in his arms just the right way.
I estimated him to be a few inches over six feet. He towered over me easily, and his biceps…
Dear Lord, but they were huge. About the size of my head alone, and they showed off nicely in the deep blue shirt he wore that highlighted his golden complexion.
His brown hair was a little longer than it had been two years before, but he still looked sexy.
Like a fantasy, come to life.
And how badly I wanted this fantasy to become a reality.
I stumbled a little when a huge man bumped into me.
I turned to find dark-green eyes leering at me, accompanied by a sleazy smile.
Moving back a step until I hit the wall, I eyed the man warily.
His smile widened, showing a row of mustard-yellow teeth and beer breath. My nose wrinkled from the smell, and the man held out his hand as if he were going to grab me. I braced myself for it, but it never came.
Suddenly, the man was pushed against the wall, Kai between us. Kai had his huge hand wrapped around the guy’s beefy neck.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Kai asked, his voice low and rough.
The music cut off and the entire bar turned to us. Two men wearing the club cut came over to us, but they didn’t stop Kai. Instead, they seemed to defer to him, waiting to see what he would do.
The guy panicked, his eyes widening when Kai squeezed a little tighter, his face turning purple.
I must have made a noise in the back of my throat because Kai turned to me suddenly, his eyes also widening with what seemed to be regret.
Blue showed up.
“Get her out of here,” Kai said, his words biting. I flinched as hurt blossomed in my heart.
I’d done it now.
I made him angry.
