Carefully, I rolled away and climbed out of the bed. I tucked the blanket back over her shoulder, covering her up once more, and quietly left the room.

* * *

I heardher the moment she climbed off the bed and made her way to the kitchen.

I didn’t turn around as I flipped the pancakes, and she didn’t say anything.

I wondered how long she planned on standing there and watching me.

I smiled at the thought and put the last of the pancakes on the plate before I turned off the stove and turned around.

“Hungry?”

Her eyes widened, as if she hadn’t been expecting me to notice her, and her mouth opened, sputtering a bit before she closed it.

My smile widened.

Jesus, but this girl showed every emotion on her face.

It was fucking fascinating to watch.

I cocked my head to the side and watched her eye the stack of pancakes.

She bit her lip, and I narrowed my eyes at her. She was hungry, but if she spouted some bullshit about not being hungry because she didn’t want the calories so early in the morning, she was going to find herself over my lap.

She would eventually learn just what being in a relationship with me was about.

Fuck, was I already thinking about a relationship with this girl?

I shook away the thought and moved around the island to where she stood. She was wearing my shirt.

What a sight.

I let her see the hunger in my eyes as I stared at her bare legs down to her little toes painted bright pink.

How fucking pretty.

She looked down when I got close. I clasped her chin between my fingers and lifted it until she looked up at me.

“Did you sleep okay?” I asked softly.

She bit her bottom lip before nodding.

I frowned, then leaned down and took her lips in a sweet kiss.

I wasn’t always sweet—hardly ever—but Gemma was shy and a whole lot skittish.

I wanted to show her I could be sweet for her.

When I pulled away, she kept her eyes closed, almost as if she was savoring the taste of me.

Fuck me, but when had I ever been this affected by a girl?

I waited until she opened her eyes.

She offered me a small smile. “Yes, I slept well. Thank you.”

So polite.
