She snuggled in closer to me as if seeking my comfort.

“Disgust is the last thing you feel when I touch you,” I said confidently.

“That doesn’t make it right.”

I shrugged. “Perhaps not. But I already told you, you’re mine. I’m going to keep touching you, and you’re going to keep falling apart in my arms.”

She buried her face in my chest, but not before I caught a hint of her smile.

“Please don’t kill him. Not for me. I don’t think I can h-handle it…”

She shivered against me, and I tightened my arms around her.

“Don’t worry about this anymore, got me?”

“What are you planning on doing?”

“Nothing for you to worry about.”

“Micah…”

I pressed my thumb against her lips, shutting her up. She narrowed her eyes on me.

I held onto my amusement.

How much damage did she think her slight glare was going to cause?

Fuck, but she was cute.

Like a small bunny trying to intimidate a wolf.

“I won’t kill your father for this. But I’m not making any promises. If he does something to warrant his death, I won’t fucking hold back. He’s a piece of shit, and he doesn’t deserve an ounce of your sympathy.”

She didn’t say anything for a moment. Then she offered me the slightest nod.

I leaned down and kissed her cheek, letting my lips run over the soft skin there as contentment settled deep inside of me.

I reached over to the glove compartment and pulled out a cell phone.

She looked surprised when I handed it over to her.

“What’s this?”

“Yours.”

“It’s really mine? You’re not afraid I’m going to use it to record you and call the police?”

I smiled viciously at her. “And which fucker would have the unfortunate luck of being sent out to take me away? You think I would ever let anything come between me and you, let alone fucking prison bars?”

She looked up at me with dark eyes, and my smile widened as I swiped my thumb over her soft bottom lip.

“No,” I said when I felt her squirm against me. “You wouldn’t call the cops on me, sweetheart. You’re gonna stay by my fucking side forever, aren’t you?”

“Forever?”

She seemed bewildered by the word.

I nodded. “Forever. Now, go to school, sweetheart. I’ll be here to pick you up when it lets out.”
