“Gemma,” Roman said, shaking his head.
She looked at each of us before turning her eyes back to me. I didn’t show any reaction to the accusing note in her voice. At least she didn’t look scared of me, the way she had been for the good part of her relationship with Kai.
Or perhaps she was feeling brave with Dominic and Kai close by.
“But-But… Is she locked up in your h-house right now?”
Her bottom lip trembled, and I let out a small sigh.
This was why we shouldn’t bring women out to the bar.
They were too fucking emotional.
“She’s in school now,” I said, not clarifyingwhichschool she was in. I didn’t want to open another can of fucking worms.
Gemma stilled. The other three men were watching me as if I was saying something foreign. I ignored ’em and turned to the girl.
“School?” Gemma asked.
“School,” I confirmed.
“You let her out?”
I would have smiled over the question if I weren’t feeling so annoyed. “Yes. She’s not locked up in my room all the time.”
Gemma’s eyes widened.
“Micah,” Kai said sharply.
“Did he just make a joke?” Roman asked.
“Why do people keep asking me that? Don’t you think I can joke?” I asked him.
“Who else asked you that? Did she—Lainey—ask you that? Did you make a joke in front of her?”
I didn’t bother answering him. Pointing at the screen, I said, “I suspected something was going on with Ozzy. I followed him yesterday and found him dropping a bag of money underneath a public bench and a man came by to pick it up shortly after. A man I have never met before. And I followed the fucker down a sewer system that had been constructed to keep this shit away from the public’s eyes.” I pointed at Kai. “I had the kid discreetly install the camera around so we can see what the fuck was going on, and maybe identify the fuckers.”
“Why don’t we just blow up the entire place and stop them from doing business?”
This one, surprisingly, came from Gemma.
Kai turned to her with an amused look on his face. “I hadn’t realized you were so bloodthirsty, pretty girl.”
She blushed and looked down at the table.
I still didn’t think any woman should be here while we discussed club business. Not because I thought she would betray us, but she was too fucking sensitive and I didn’t know how tonotsound insensitive and not scare her.
“You don’t think the man in charge is present,” Dominic said, already figuring it out.
I nodded. “Not only that, we don’t know what they’re planning. Or if there are other similar distributing sites underneath Sacramento—or hell, California, though I have people looking into it.”
He nodded.
“What are you going to do about Ozzy Reyes? He’s obviously involved,” Roman said.
Did he think the fucker would get special treatment from me just because he was Lainey’s father?
“Kill him,” I said calmly. Dominic nodded, satisfied with my answer, and Gemma’s breath caught.
