I was just his Uncle Mickey.

Someone he knew would always be gentle with him.

An image flashed in my brain about another little boy who would have big green eyes and dark brown hair.

I pushed the image away and focused back on Ryker, taking in his solid form.

“He seems to grow a couple of inches every time I see him,” I commented.

Roman shot me an amused smile. “Kids do that, you know.”

I shook my head and looked back down at my nephew.

Dominic’s twins were only eight months younger than Ryker, and perhaps it was because they had to share a womb, but they were nowhere near as huge as Ryker.

Still precious, though I would never say that out loud.

People tended to look at me weirdly when I said shit like that out loud.

The circle of people I would kill for… would die for… was growing against my will, and there was nothing I could do about it.

Something about having so many of my weaknesses walking about in this world made my skin crawl.

For the longest time, Roman had been my one and only weakness.

Then the fucker went and fell in love.

And I knew there was very little I wouldn’t do for him and his family.

There would be no line I wouldn’t cross to ensure they were safe and happy…

But that didn’t mean I had to like it.

Then there were Dominic and his family.

I would lay down my life for my president and the cause of the club.

Being the club’s enforcer meant I risked my life more than any of the other brothers in the club—something I couldn’t give two shits about. But if I wasn’t around to protect them, then who the fuck would?

I pulled Ryker closer in my arms, and he rested his head against my chest, sucking on his thumb and making my heart feel both light and heavy.

I took a deep breath as I thought about the tiny girl who had stolen my attention—and fucking sanity—for the last three years.

Another weakness, only this one, no one knew about.

It should make me feel better.

She couldn’t be used against me, but there was just something about not putting a claim on her that made me want to pummel my fist into the face of any fuckers who even looked at me wrong.

Ryker let out a small, annoyed sound when I squeezed him a little too tight, and I relaxed my hold, leaning down and kissing the top of his head in apology.

Roman watched the entire thing with curiosity.

“Are you sure you’re feeling okay?” Roman asked.

“Yep,” I said, not looking at him.

“You know, Dominic mentioned something about a girl… two years ago….”
