He didn’t miss, and it looked like that was almost enough to knock the bigger man out.
They circled around each other once more, and Micah threw another punch.
Lincoln kicked Micah in the shin, but the contact didn’t seem to affect Micah much.
He came back and kept punching Lincoln—once, twice, three more times until the other man shook his head as if disoriented.
I bit my lip and looked on anxiously.
This would be over soon, wouldn’t it?
But it being over meant someone died.
I tried to swallow around the nausea threatening and looked away for a brief moment.
I didn’t know, but I heard someone from the crowd shout, “Come on, Lincoln. Go for blood.”
I tried to block out his words. It must have come from someone who had bet against Micah.
My attention was brought back when the sound of flesh hitting flesh rang out, and I let out a small cry when I realized it was Micah getting hit.
What the hell?
The crowd cheered when the blood spurted out from his lips.
I looked at Roman and thought his stance was relaxed. I had a feeling it was for my benefit.
Roman was getting worried, and Dominic had been quiet for a while now.
Lincoln let out one final punch and hit Micah square in the face.
I watched in horror as Micah stumbled on his feet. Lincoln didn’t give him a chance to recover.
He pushed Micah and held him in a headlock as he punched his ribs over and over again.
My hand moved up to my mouth as tears formed in my eyes.
I gripped Roman’s arms tightly, and he didn’t pull away.
Micah struggled a bit, but I didn’t know how he would get out of this.
Another punch to the rib.
I stood up and screamed. “Micah!”
My voice was drowned out by the noises made by the crowd. Micah looked up and met my eyes.
I shook my head.
And it seemed a light switch went on in his eyes, because he twisted his body before dropping to the ground, leaving Lincoln off balance.
The crowd cheered and booed when Micah was able to get out of the headlock.
Lincoln panicked and grabbed the back of Micah’s shirt, trying to get him back into a vulnerable position.
Micah tugged off his shirt and stood up to his full height, breathing hard.
A hush came over the crowd for a brief second, but it was long enough for me to notice.
