Micah looked up and nodded at Roman and Dominic, avoiding my eyes.
I didn’t know what that nod meant, but they did. Roman pulled me further into his body as Dominic stood up, a blade in his hand.
He walked close to the ring and threw it inside for Micah, who grabbed it.
That was when Roman pushed my head into his chest, covering my eyes so I couldn’t see what was happening.
Loud gasps moved out of the crowd.
I peeked my eyes through Roman’s fingers and could see enough.
Blood everywhere.
And Micah was carving the skin from Lincoln’s body using the blade Dominic handed him.
The man struggled, but he was no match for Micah, and it seemed the screams had left him. He barely made a noise.
I thought I would be sick when Micah held up the bloody piece of skin of what looked like one of Lincoln’s tattoos.
Why would Micah carve out one of Lincoln’s tattoos?
Micah came up to the edge of the ring, his eyes moving about until he caught Dad.
He threw the skin, hitting Dad in the face, whose screams were drowned out by the stunned chaos of everyone in the crowd.
More blood seeped out from Lincoln’s body, and Micah went back to the man with the blade in hand.
He stood over the body and smiled.
I closed my eyes, having seen enough, tensing when the crowd went absolutely wild.
The bell dinged to announce Micah as the winner.
I kept my eyes closed, waiting for Scotty to come up and put on his little greasy act.
He didn’t get the chance.
Three shots rang out, fired from what sounded like a gun, sending the crowd into a panic.
I pulled away and looked around as everyone in the crowd tried to get out of there.
Roman stood up and tucked me under his arm while Dominic pushed people out of the way and made way for us.
I struggled.
“Micah!”
Roman pulled me back and kept going, taking me further away from Micah.
“No!” I screamed. “Micah!”
Roman bent down and picked me up in his arms. “Hold still, Lainey.”
“Micah—”
“Can take care of himself. But he’s going to be pissed if we let anything happen to you. Now come on.”
Tears streamed down my face as I looked around, but I couldn’t see him anywhere. It wasn’t like Micah could easily blend into the crowd, so where the hell was he?
