She smiled.
“This is Kacey Snyder. Mace Snyder’s wife,” I answered Roman.
Fucking hell.
Of all the people I thought could have been in charge, I never even considered the wife of the former president of the Devil Sinners MC.
I shouldn’t be surprised, but I was. Women didn’t play a role in our world, and the fact that she had been able to gather up men and lead them into Sacramento was something else altogether.
Kacey laughed. “So you do know me. How thorough of a job you must have done when you decided to hunt down my husband like a fucking dog. How does it make you feel to know that you had spared me because I’m a woman, and you didn’t think much of me?”
“Believe me, I won’t be making that mistake again. Where is Lainey?”
She let out a shrill cackle that did nothing to bring down my rage. I didn’t hurt women, mostly because they didn’t fucking matter when it came to this world, but I was willing to make an exception for the bitch.
“You think I’m gonna tell you?”
She pressed something on her phone, and the projection turned on, revealing Lainey on the screen.
My heart halted as I took in her terrified expression, tears streaming down her face.
She was tied to a chair, a white cloth covering her mouth as she struggled to get free.
She looked off to the left of her, then froze, terror, moving in her eyes as another person came into view of the screen.
Fucking Garrett Jones.
I should have fucking killed him when I had the chance.
I would not be letting another person breathe on this Earth for hurting Lainey.
Not ever again.
Kacey laughed. “Do you know why I’m doing this?” she asked.
Roman pulled out his gun, but I knew it wouldn’t have mattered. She wasn’t going to be deterred because Roman was pointing his gun at her.
“Because I sent out the pictures,” I said, already guessing.
She laughed, the sound hollow.
“Those fucking pictures. You wanted to warn off the remaining members not to start the club again. Did you believe that would work?”
“Obviously, it didn’t work with you,” I said, ignoring the fact that Garrett was now tugging on Lainey’s hair and taking a huge sniff.
I took a step closer to her.
Roman stayed where he was, assessing the situation.
She laughed. “You think I care about this? I just needed a way into the city. I wanted to kill you with my bare hands. Imagine my surprise when I noticed the fucking unfeeling psycho was stalking a teenage girl in secret.”
She laughed again. I stepped in a little closer.
“It was just my luck. Killing you wouldn’t have shown you my pain, but her? Fuck, I didn’t think it was even possible that you could fall in love. And now, you’re going to know what I felt when I saw—”
She took a deep breath.
“When did you see Mace Snyder in pieces?” I asked, a taunting note in my voice.
